in opinion and interesting.
Greetings G’s & G’s
Ok, so going to our GP or the hospital, is pretty much a normal factor of life we all have to adhere to at some point of our lives or another. Westerners in general, however, have a very shady idea of traditional healers and what they call “hocus pocus” medicine, our belief (or lack thereof) in such matters however is most probably a product of social brain washing. Humanity in general has a straight forward approach to medicine, or medical practices that are tangible and can be explained by modern science.
Growing up in Durban, may have opened up a doorway into a belief of a more spiritual nature (its really in your face there), fair enough I personally don’t go to a sangoma for healing, or for a reading of fates, but I’m very interested in Eastern traditional healing like, pressure point manipulation and acupuncture, which is proven to give relief to pain as well as a host of problems commonly encountered by us and which we usually treat by running to our doctor for bucket loads of drugs (I don’t dig pills).
While there are still many traditional healing forms that excite me, there are those that also make me raise my eyebrows (but just a little), I think its the ones who have good advertising campaigns that really freak me out, haven’t you noticed the increase of little flyers making their way into our post boxes, offering us cures for high blood pressure and even troubled marriages…..WOW what a service (they even have neat little maps to help u find your way). These guys reckon they can do just about anything for you, the only thing I haven’t seen is perhaps a way to stop time altogether.

in babble, cape town, opinion and interesting.
My family and I recently went to one of the Ocean Basket restaurants for dinner. To put it simply, I was appauled by the service.
Service / customer care is one area of business that I take to heart. One of my biggest gripes about South Africa is that there is a VERY POOR attitude toward good service / customer care. There are a number of reasons contributing to this bad attitude, but I’ll leave that discussion for another day.
So, we arrive at The Ocean Basket and there are four of us. Our waitress looks around and saw that there were NO 4-seater tables only a few 6-seater tables. She told us that we’d have to wait while she sees what she can sort out for us as the manager of this Ocean Basket, doesn’t like seating less that six people at a 6-seater table as 6 people may come in needing the table. What a REDICULOUS policy!
Hmmm, lets see. Seat 4 people at any of the available 6-seater tables, where orders will be placed and create satisfied happy customers… or irritate the customer making them want to leave and NOT come back… hmmm.
Next thing, there was some scuffling in one of the corners of the restaurant as a 6-seater table was being split for us. But there was no way this was going to work. The area in which that table was, was so small that the people seated around it were being bumped and when the table was finally split there was no room for 4 adults to sit comfortably. So, we sat ourselves down at a comfortable 6-seater table and asked for menus.
