Greetings everybody.
I’m sure that many of you have heard the tragic news about the famous local Reggae star Lucky Dube. Yesterday evening he was killed by three as yet unknown hijackers, as he was dropping off his son in Rosettenville, a Johannesburg suburb. Its said that his daughter witnessed the whole scene unfold before her very eyes. The gunmen that shot Mr. Dube are as yet still running around free.
It is such sad news to hear about a legend like Lucky Dube, a man that brought peace through his music, who lived a loving life striving for freedom, meeting such a terrible end. Mr. Dube’s music has inspired generations of South Africans, even throughout the apartheid era, he was one of the voices of freedom. Lucky Dube will not only be missed here in South Africa but all across the globe.
Lucky Dube, who I think still had so much to give through his music, has passed away at the young age of 43. His music career lasted more than 25 years and he won numerous awards. He was also the first South African artist to be signed by the famous American label Motown. Lucky Dube’s music has also helped enhance important social messages, such as his songs about AIDS and common equality.
Lucky Dube is a legend and we must not forget it. We here at eSquared hope that everybody will go about there weekend with a mellow, cool and motivated attitude in respect for “The man“.
