I was in Cape Town last week visiting the eSquared Seapoint crew and my good bud Craig Shackleton – AKA Digital Lama invited Eric and I to come chill with him at Ignite on Camps Bay last Sunday night.
Digital Lama is considered one of the top VJs (Video DJs) around these days and a phenomenal DJ as well. What that man and our buddy Wayne - who he always works with – can do with visuals is AWESOME! When they are working with their state-of –the-art equipment it seriously looks like an excerpt from the bridge of the Star Trek USS Enterprise. Crazy stuff!
When I arrived that night I never really knew what to expect – I thought it would be super-chillout at Ignite on Camps Bay. No way Jose. The place was PUMPING!!! I could barely get to the bar or the DJ booth! - but the vibe was so incredible – no agro – just fantastic, warm vibes. I went to the bar and a girl I HAVE NEVER MET BEFORE bought me a drink. Wicked.
Goldfish were incredible and played quite a bit of new material. What I really enjoy about Goldfish is the originality of the music, that it’s mixed live, and incorporates real instruments like sax and flute. Later I met one of the Goldfish fellas – such a humble cat!
Goldfish have become one of the best loved SA artists and their fame has spread worldwide for their absolutely polished and unique act. The material is truly staggeringly good – and for Goldfish fans : expect a new album soon
Next up was Roger Goode, of 5FM Saturday Night Surgery fame, playing the best set I have heard from him in YEARS – I mean Roger always pulls a great party, but this was off-the-hook! He just combined the perfect balance of a deep house-like vibe with a touch of upbeat rave. (he will probably have me shot for this description). All I can tell you is that Ignite was fully packed at 02h00 and was still partying hard with a chock-a-block full dancefloor.
So I have such an amazing cloud 9 experience with Goldfish, Roger Goode and Digital Lama that I decided to share it with you. Check the awesome YouTube video at the top, for a taste of flava from that evening courtesy of yours truly.
Next time you are in Camps Bay on a Sunday – pop into Ignite and set your night on fire!
