I heard such a great story on the news last night about our very own home grown Oscar Pistorius winning his CAS appeal to be able to represent South Africa in the Beijing Olympics.
Wooohooo nice one dude.
For those of you who don’t know Oscar Pistorius is a double amputee who run using special “carbon fibre blade” legs.
Lately there has been a whole ruckus about Pistorius’ legs giving him an advantage over other athletes.
Well the hearing took place in Switzerland Friday where Pistorus appealed to CAS, who is the world’s highest tribunal in sport, in order to overturn a ban implemented by the IAAF (The International Association of Athletics Federations) who oppose his participation against “able bodied” athletes.
Loads of scientific data was analysed and the conclusion was that the carbon fibre running blades would in no way give him an unfair advantage, the CAS gave a unanimous decision allowing him to compete.
The new rule comes into effect immediately.
