vegas2We all hear about these crazy stories coming out of Las Vegas about people waking up in tubs of ice with no kidney, people getting married by the real Elvis and Suddam Hussein walking feely along the strip. Okay I made that last one up but some crazy stuff does happen in Vegas.

I found these myths about sin city. Hopefully this clears up what’s real and what’s not.

Money in the Bible. Shame this is just a myth. The myth is that Christians put $100 bills in the Gideon Bibles in Vegas hotel rooms as a “reward” for actually reading and using them. There are a few problems with this myth. One, I’m sure instead of putting money in a bible; they would use the money to buy more bibles. Two, if a person found a hundred dollars in a bible in Vegas, they’d probably use it on gambling. I know I would. And three, the maids would get it way… before you ever would.

The note says call for help and you just woke up in a tub full of ice. Okay, this is a little far fetched. Lonely guy meets beautiful woman, takes her back to his hotel room, and wakes up in a tub of ice with a note that says he should call paramedics immediately. He realizes he has been cut open and his kidney removed for sale on the black market.

This myth mostly comes from stories from India and other third world countries where black marketers harvest kidneys from isolated individuals. This could be associated with the transient population that moves through Las Vegas. Many people blow into town alone, with no one knowing where they are. This person would be an ideal target for a black marketer to make just disappear. So why bother leaving them in the tub? Besides, 2 kidneys are better than one.

Las Vegas Wedding Don’t Count. Well, if you believe this, then you’re gonna be in trouble very soon. Believe it or not, there are many people who go to Vegas, meet someone, get married and believes that the marriage is not completely valid. Who know what they’re thinking, but it does come back to bite some people. It’s said that when 22-year-old singer, Britney Spears married friend Jason Alexander

in Las Vegas Real aliens attend the Star Trek Convention. No this is a great myth. Because if you’ve ever been to a Star Trek convention, you know, you wouldn’t be able to tell if there vegas1was a real alien in the room. So we’ll leave this one as unconfirmed.

What Happens In Vegas Stays In Vegas. Oops, this doesn’t fly. Go ahead, try it out. We guarantee this can come back and bite you in the ass.

I had a good laugh gathering all of these myths. Some are believable but others are just absurd. Now, all that’s left for me is to travel across to sin city and check these myths out for myself!

Mount Everest Anniversary

everestanniversary

Hey there all you adventurers.

Today is a very special day indeed, it’s the anniversary of the first team to conquer the tallest mountain on our blue Earth. That’s right Edmund Hillary and the Sherpa Tenzing Norgay were the first to make the dangerous climb to the summit of Mount Everest back in 1953.
This is one UBER accomplishment, especially when it was done so long ago.

In 1953 the ninth British Expedition which was led by John Hunt, he selected two pairs of climbers to try and complete the Everest climb.
Tom Bourdillon and Charles Evans were the first to attempt Everest but had to turn back 100m from the summit due to exhaustion…imagine that, getting all that way up and having to turn back such a small distance from the goal, that must have been soul destroying…each inch must have been like a mile for them. The conditions are crippling when you are so high above sea level, oxygen also becomes a major factor for climbers.
The second set of climbers, Norgay and Hillary, were fortunate enough to have the trail blazing information and oxygen caches left by the first set of climbers and made the Everest summit a few days later.
I wonder if it was a case of drawing straws to see who was in what team….although the first team could have the chance of getting to the summit first, they must have known if they failed that the next team would surely beat them out of the glory.
