Greetings friends
Today I want to speak about a subject which we take very seriously here at eSquared Fashion and that is on the topic of “ripped” designs.
It seems that it’s very difficult in this day and age to keep your own design work exclusive, there is always some deviant out there who will rip off your design that you have spent hours slaving over and manufacture it in poor quality in mass quantity.
One of our very well known local suppliers Love Jozi has found itself in the grip of these criminal elements of late and have had their very slick urban wear ripped by a group called Luv Jozi who go around selling garments that are obviously stolen from our beloved Love Jozi.
The fact that these guys even have a website with Made in China all over it really pisses me off, did they think they could get away with this so easily?
Check out the Luv Jozi site as compared to the “Real Deal” and you will laugh your bum off…and then be really annoyed.
There’s even a little trade mark sign next to their name…I’d like to print it out and jam it down their throats….sorry but this kinda thing really burns my biscuit.
Love Jozi has become a leading player in the South African clothing industry with a truly “local is lekker” vibe to all of their designs. They are proof that local designers can still get out there and make a name for themselves.
However when a cheap import Chinese company comes along and seeks to uproot all that hard work, it’s understandable that the Love Jozi crew are upset.
I urge all of you out there to stop falling prey to cheap rip offs and support your local brands, together we can make the South African clothing industry something great.
Please be aware of what you are buying out there, not only is it a “punch in the gut” for all South Africans, but the garments themselves are also substandard and different from the original cut.
Recently we started up the Springleap.com site, which is a competition where people can submit their designs and have a chance to get their work printed if they receive the winning number of votes.
We have stepped right into the “Rip Off front lines” with this venture, as we have already had so many people try and submit work that doesn’t belong to them, you can imagine the stress there.
So right now we are in the same boat in regards to having to keep our eyes open for opportunistic scum bags.
What an awesome world this would be if we never had to worry about being stabbed in the back and having our original ideas exploited.
In the final analysis this hurts South African development and steals jobs, not to mention destroying the dreams of local producers.
I was very sorry to hear about Love Jozi’s predicament with these guys and I hope that they get what they deserve.
Surely there is something that can be done about these pests and their blatant design theft.
We stand with you Love Jozi and will continue to stock your “original” high quality gear.
“Luv Jozi” should be ashamed of themselves, I can just imagine all these rips offs flying around China at the moment.
Duncs.

its hard being famous , every body wants a piece of my name.
I am the original Jozi
The One & Only
I guess you can take it as a compliment, but its a compliment you would rather they didn’t try and sell.
What has Luv Jozies response been to you telling them off?
Thanks for letting us know about this Duncan!
They say the biggest compliment to any artist is when someone rips off your design,it shows that the original designer has what it takes and the copy cats dont have a clue.
this is just blatant, would be interesting to see what the guys from Love Jozi have to say about this
Thanks for the advice!
