Most art lovers who have made their way into the Durban store are always amazed at the pottery we have on show and that is down to one man…Andrew Walford.
Andrew is a big friend of eSquared and thanks to him we always have a great supply of pottery on hand.
Andrew Walford lives in Kwazulu Natal with his wife Leanda and four children in the rolling peace of the Shongweni hills, halfway between Durban and Pietermaritzburg. Indigenous bush surrounds his mountain studio and working alongside Gumede, his Zulu handyman, Andrew draws much inspiration for his decoration from the many trees and birds there. Andrew Walford is one of the few potters who digs his own stoneware clay and meticulously prepares it to his own high standard. Working in the Japanese tradition with thick chun glazes sifted by hand from wood ash, colours of rich resonant tenmokus, fatty whites and shades of celadon, he then decorates the pots with specially imported Japanese brushes. The kiln which he designed and built himself is fired about eight times a year with paraffin oil to a temperature of 1380 degrees Celsius. It takes 18 hours to fire and 3 days to cool.
Now for the big treat…Andrew will be holding an exhibition at his Shongweni studio this Sunday from 10am-6pm. For detail you can call 031 7691363/0827947796. you can also visit www.andrewwalford.co.za for more info
Thisis definitely not a day to be missed.

Roads are a dangerous place. Every day we see horror stories on the telly and in magazines about crazy drives killing unfortunate victims as they drive around at 100 miles per hour with reckless abandon.
The culprits of reckless driving are usually drunks, youngsters or old people.
I can honestly say that I have “small” phobia of driving…having a license is a HUGE responsibility and takes patience and a fair degree of alertness too.
Some people on the roads have neither of these qualities and don’t care what the repercussions of their speeding will have on the people around them.
I don’t know how many times I’ve heard stories of innocent pedestrian’s being run down by idiot drivers who thing they are too “cool for school” and drive like maniacs.
Youngsters are definitely a huge factor in the “bad driving stats”.
Kids who have just earned their license are notorious for driving like twits, yes they are new to driving and yes they have so much to experience before they are competent drivers but honestly that should make the little blighters drive slower, not like they are on a race track.
The thrill of speed is there of course, the feeling of letting loose in a powerful machine and tearing down an open stretch is appealing to anybody.
These feelings should be left for the video game arcades and X-boxes in the safety of your own home…if you wanna drive like Nigel Mansel do it somewhere else.

Hi there one and all.
There’s no doubt about it, every day we are bombarded with so much information that at times it’s a little overwhelming.
Honestly it’s difficult to remember all the things we are supposed to do and to keep track of what everybody around us says.
Some days I feel like I should just stick post-it notes all over my forehead so that I can remember all the little things that slip through my memory net.
Every now and then we all need to get ourselves in order and consolidate what needs to be done and what everybody has said…Joserosero has created a stunning design called Memory Maintenance which shows us exactly what this is all about.
Memory maintenance is another typical design by Joserosero, you can see his style a mile away and will always be blown away by its intricate jaw dropping power.
The image of a hand stuffing everything into a box is an apt representation of when we take all that loose info that is flying around our busy minds and jams it back to where it’s supposed to be.
Unfortunately for me I think my box has a few holes in it so gathering all that content can be pretty difficult LOL.
