Bigwood 2 art exhibition

bigwood2

Hi there friends.

There are so many awesome South African designers out there these days that it is hard to keep track of who is making “waves” in the industry.
Luckily there is one event that overshadows all others when it comes to innovative forward thinking design…that’s right it’s time once again for the Bigwood event.

The very first Bigwood exhibition was held just last year at Manna in Glenwood. To say that this event was a success is the understatement of the century, the level of design that was packed between those walls was simply awe inspiring and saw a select group of Durban designers from all disciplines come together under one roof to make a “power box” of design.

bigwoodbirdhouseBasically it was an exhibition featuring illustrators, fine artists and photographers who’s aim was to create something that ran with the theme of “Have fun” and the only stipulation was to use the element of “wood”…that is the material or of course the scene.
This very loose guideline and underlying influence of fun made for an elaborate and easy going design feast which each artist approached from a totally different angle.
The most popular works were character based with many artists using Big Foot and lumberjack ideas as a base to work from.
Artists and art appreciators from all walks of life met and conversed about the designs and the future of art for up and coming designers.

This year Bigwood2 is set to be even better than the first.
It will feature more than 45 artists from around SA, which includes a large contingent of Capetonian artists like Theory1 and Senyol.
[R]evolution skateboards has also sponsored the artists with one of a kind custom decks to go wild with their design on and will be featured at the exhibition.
Another interesting piece of info to note is that the exhibition will be travelling to the Berlin artSPACE in March 2009, so in essence the show is going international and getting our brilliant local artists full on world-wide recognition.
furryheadsThis showing of talent is renowned for being unpretentious and easy going, which allows for a chilled atmosphere where you can indulge your artistic appetites without fear of conforming to the usual design exhibition norms.
Anything goes.

The exhibition will be happening at artSPACE on the 18th of July from 20:00 until 2:00….so prepare for a late one everybody.
With the awesome atmosphere and great music I’m sure they are going to have to force people to leave eventually

This is understandable…what with the crowds being treated to not only a delicious visual bombardment but also super cool tunes by NONONO…who can blame them?!

If you are a lover of art who likes to keep up with the latest and greatest in the industry, make sure you don’t miss out on this superb event, you will kick yourself if you do.
