Hi there friends.
Today I decided it’s time for a rant…just a small one…just a microscopic ant like size rant, that shouldn’t take more than a line or two…come on its been ages
Let me first start by saying OMfreakingG HOW IN THE HADES , HOW IN THE NINE ABYSMAL HELLS, WHY WOULD U, HOW COULD U…..F*&K*#&(A^S&(@^(THER…..*whew*….and a packet of Skittles.
Ok, that felt good.
So what has gotten up my nose today? well it’s all about Baby Birthdays.
You are probably shaking your head right now going HUH??
Look I have no problems with baby birthdays…in fact I think it’s very important to celebrate the birth of your child and make them feel special…no worries there, however I get the hell in when I watch Top Billing and they show the most ridiculous self indulgent baby birthday parties, as in last night’s case….how to phrase this…WHAT A DOG SHOW.
I’m not sure what Top Billing is trying to prove, but just lately they have been running shows where they showcase people with waaay too much money, putting on kiddies parties that cost more than your average 21 year olds special birthday…its such a colossal waste of money and highlights for me the lengths rich people go to, to show off their wealth.
Check this out, it’s cool in my opinion to throw a groovy party for your child if they will be able to truly appreciate it…or at least be old enough to say thanks.
But when you start having these parties when the child can’t even speak or chew properly, that’s when you have to put on the breaks.
Last night this lady had a christening for her kid and a full on party….dude she arrives with her kid in a carriage onto some estate where all the “friends and family” are decked out on chairs as if somebody is getting married…it must have felt like such a joke to be sitting there, I would have covered my face if the camera came my way….such over indulgent insanity.
The mother of the “lucky” infant seemed to argue her case, saying that she is a single mother and that she wants to give the child everything she possibly can to prove her love…LOVE, materialistic self centered love…it was hard to take her seriously when she is chatting happily about the babies swarosfski embedded slippers that were flown in from Europe.
If this was the kids first birthday/ christening, can you imagine the kind of materialistic fool it will become in later life…parents out there should teach their kids from a young age to be in tune with the world around them….not a resource sucking plastic nothing.
I feel sorry for this baby, I really do.
Honestly it was all about the mother, the baby was simply the proxy through which she had an opportunity to flaunt her wealth…I was totally disgusted at what she considered important and that Top Billing would actually sink so low as to show the pathetic segment…there has to be something better to show us guys…stay away from this kind of rubbish.
Look I’m not saying that a baby birthday can’t be an event, but use a little bit of restraint.
I mentioned above that it seemed to be a combined first birthday as well as a christening, the priest came up and did his thing for the christening himself, welcoming the baby into the world of god and saying that he hopes that the baby gets involved with the religious community in later life.
Gotta say, I’m not sure how much hope the child has of that looking at the mom…if she truly had any concept of religion and charity she would never dare throw such a “vain” party, she would take that money and donate it to the church itself or perhaps a charity with babies who truly need it.
Dude one of those slippers alone would feed an encampment of children for a month….it’s just plain sick if you ask me.
This lady needs a serious reality check.
Ok thats it, I’m finished with the rant…needed to just voice my concerns.
Top Billing, let’s move on from this absurd baby birthday stuff and stick to the usual stuff….because that is really good stuff…do more exciting new interiors and practical stuff that we can all learn from…showcase up and coming designers that are just out of college…support the designers that will pave the way…not just the old ones that have been around for the last few decades.
Duncs.
PS: at least I’m not ranting about the very unnatural “setups” for the winners of the Top Billing birthday prizes…gimme a break ROFL….when that cork exploded I almost died laughing, it was the most realistic thing from the whole show.

I most defnitely agree with you dude.I’ve always despised the way some rich/wealthy people splurge hectic tonnes of money on baby birthdays and other stuff that’s unneccessary. It’s not because i don’t have the money but if i did,i wouldn’t splurge on a day the kid’s not gonna remember, except from photo shoots etc.I mean g’z!If they don’t know what to do with the money, why not go ask the kid’s at some orphanage,or disabled people at some home or something. But hey,at least they make me feel better about myself, reminding me not of how much money i don’t have but how sane and selfless i am.But hey! That’s the way the cookie crumbles. It’s thhe way of the world.
Can i make a comment on this TOP BIlling CHRISTENING that was showcased last night - i rightfully do so because the lady you are referring to here is my sister and that baby is my niece.
The event was opulent and there is no doubt that it had class but i refuse that you start judging the values of the mother of the baby. Some poeple were not as priviledges when they were growing up and hence they would go out of their way to ensure that their babies have the best things in life as was the case with baby Nzulu. The mother is a very principled, young and first time mom who is overwhelmed to have been given a chance by God to bring this beautiful perfect gift to the world and whishes that her baby can have a good start in life… Im not justifying but rather asking that before you judge practise a bit of empathy.
Thanks for the comment Siza.
As far as opulence and class go there is no doubt that the event was a success…that is by no means what I have an issue with, hats off to the execution of the party.
However, you must realize what the event looked like to an outside party who has no idea what your sister is like in real life.
It was beyond extreme and in all honesty if the mother had such a difficult upbringing I would think that she would want the child to also learn from her hardships and become strong and independent.
Its obvious that the mother has made it in life, good for her, but this sets a heavy precedent for little Nzulu and i hope she grows up in the “right way”…instead of just being swamped with wealth and in effect, not learning about life for herself.
As for empathy, perhaps I was in short supply today, but after watching last night I really needed to say something.
Thanks once again Siza for the more personal insight into the situation.
point noted Duncan.different strokes for different folkes. have a fab weekend.
i was watching that show and i’m telling all i did was laugh. Siza my sister where is the baby’s father when all of this was happening? i think your sister is living her dream through her daughter. all of the things she did that day were supposed to be done on her wedding day. i think she’s lonely and she needs to get a life.
