Hello all.
Chances are when you are asked to think about cool sunglasses one of the first brands to pop into your mind will be Oakley.
Oakley have been around for a good long time and always seem to meet the changing market with new and inventive shapes and technological enhancements.
Personally I have owned 2 pairs of Oakley thus far and have, for the most part, really enjoyed the protection and look.
Another factor I enjoy about Oakley is the fact that they experiment with their shapes, but never release a shape that doesn’t have a certain level of “lastability”.
I find that so many sunglass labels release these way out there sunnies that look good for about a season…and then just look terrible.
There is however a 2 new style of sunglasses from Oakley that leave me questioning whether or not I truly like them.
These new styles come from the Oakley Electronics range and go by the name Split Thump and O Roka Pro.
Split Thump and O Roka Pro both come from the series that I like to call “Muggers Deluxe”.
The reason being for my very apt name is because if you are brave (or stupid) enough to wear these in most parts of South Africa you will end up being mugged in two seconds flat.
So what makes these shades so “muggable”?! Well for starters both models come optionally enabled with both MP3’s or Bluetooth.
The sunglasses can supposedly hold over 500 songs, are sweat resistant and have about 8 hours battery life, which isn’t that bad considering my iPod dies waaaaay before that…it does however depend on how often you skip songs and volume level.
I found it extremely funny that Gizmondo refers to the Thump range as belonging to the,” mullet-sporting bounty hunter demographic”. ROFL that’s just hilarious.
Indeed the sunglasses in both cases are very chunky and will have to take a certain type of bone structure to pull it off, personally I know that I will look like a complete idiot in something so chunky.
The closest match I have for my own face (I wear slim line sunnies) is the Razrwire range…however with the rather prominent earphone jacks it makes you look more like a Universal Soldier than anything else…and I don’t want that.
Scope out these sunglasses and tell me if you think Oakley have gone one step too far, or if they are heading the charge into fashionable yet tech orientated eyewear.
Prepare yourself once again for a very expensive pair of sunnies, especially now that the market is kicking our butts over imported goods.
What will Oakley think of next?
Duncs.

now i’m drooling! my sunglasses i picked up at the IFS a few weeks ago don’t look anything like this!!!!
Dude you must be kidding.
If i think of cool sunglasses the last thing comes into my mind is Oakley well maybe second last, Police are probably last.
Unless it was the early ninetees and the rave scene was starting.
Respect, that they are probably well made and will last but the same can be said for a Toyota(nice car but not gonna help you score).
Not hating just expressing
Nice one Jamie, express away.
Yeah I’m hearing you on the rave scene, in fact one of the two pairs of Oakleys I bought were a pair of black “Minutes” with orange lenses LOL.
Still, I loved them dearly until they died in a tragic crushing incident.
Police are mega ug, agree with you there.
Eric what sunnies did you buy at IFS??
Right now I’m using my “old faithful” black Arnette Swingers…those babies never go out of fashion.
i bought one of the brand names - actually bought 2 - reduced from about a grand or 2 to hundred rand (or so they claimed that they were a thousand rand). the lenses hurt and the glasses don’t feel comfortable.
perhaps i should give oakley a go
Of course, what a great site and informative posts, I will add backlink. Regards.
