As many will know recently Springleap.com in collaboration with AAA have been running the amazing Pure Imagination competition aimed at giving talented young artists in high school a chance to win a 2x full 3 year bursaries for AAA.
This is a seriously cool prize, in fact, this prize could make or break the life of many budding artists out there whose families may be struggling financially or be a victim of this dreaded recession.
The Springleap.com team has been going all out to push the Pure Imagination competition to as many high schools as possible. Unfortunately it seems that there has been something of miscommunication between the teachers and the students, because the kids don’t appear to actually know the competition is on.
This is very disheartening to say the least. These kids are missing out on the chance of a life time.
We are not exactly sure what the problem is, but it seems that the schools just don’t want to push the initiative from their side…which confuses me, because if one of their students won they would also retroactively get a big pat on the back from the education board and parents alike.
Ok so maybe I’m just a big fat nerd, but I absolutely love geek t-shirt designs.
The world of gaming has come a hellova long way in the past 20 years and I am very happy to have lived through the pioneering era of video games.
All you younger Springleapers don’t know how lucky you are to have such epic gaming systems at your finger tips.
I think the first video games I ever played were titles like Space Invaders and Pong, heck I even played a text based adventure called Zork….that’s right, there wasn’t even any graphics…just text
Since the 70’s and 80’s video games have grown exponentially and the culture behind games and geek culture has become a multi-million dollar industry.
The fact of the matter is that there are millions of gaming geeks worldwide who spend hours of their day slogging away at their keyboards/game pads in order to level up.
The next obvious step for something as huge as the world of video gaming, is making sure that commercially it becomes an avenue for BIG BUCKS.
Yes, many people moan about the myriad of gaming t-shirts and paraphernalia that has come out for video games and that the industry has sold its own micro chipped soul.
As far as I’m concerned if I can get my hands on a super cool geek t-shirt that has a character I really dig, or some obscure video game comment that only a few faithful gamers will understand, then I will most certainly buy one.
“Does fashion continue to get inspiration from the art world? If not, what influences fashion — street wear? TV and movies? Technology?-FASHION AND ART
Saw this and could think of nothing else until I had something to say about it, I don’t think that fashion gets much inspiration from the art world at the moment, think about it when was the last time you saw the ‘Mona Lisa’ or ‘The Last Supper’ on a tee? Not saying this is the be all and all of art, far from it. But classics?
Technology I feel is a sticky subject, electronic media in general has created a conglomeration of diverse sub cultures which together influences everyone whether they like it or not. Technology I know for a fact has made buying t-shirts online much easier. J
I feel that most of our inspiring designs and ideas come from mass media, the Film and television industry have created the fashion trends of today. This medium is so powerful and subtle it affects our very thoughts and ideals. Take a series like LOST for example these characters in a way become the idols for design, where designers create pieces (trends) that mimic or redefine a genre with a twist or a flick of an electronic brush.Everyone knows the movie Top Gun..? Well I wonder how many pairs of Ray Ban Aviators they sold after that movie was released? Have style and cool fashion trends become ways to make a quick buck by appealing to our vanity? Or is there still that elusive spark of creation that drives our inner artist?

The art of dance evolved into some extra-ordinary source for the next revolution: KRUMP!!!
Kingdom. Radical. Uplifting. Mighty. Praise. (KRUMP) is what the HYPE is all about- the latest dance style everyone’srantingabout. ‘Get Krump’ or ‘get bucc’ is the slang and gives communities an ultimatum to combating the vicious times through dance. Hellyeahhhh!!!!!! Many are even going as far as saying that all burdens should be taken to the dancefloor and ‘get krump’ for spiritual relief. It uplifts my spirits everytime I see someone ‘get bucc’ so much emotion, so much intensity. If you’ve seen someone ‘get krump’ you’ll know what I’m talking about.
TightEyez (proclaimed to be the greatest dancer of all time), Enforcer, J-Tight are my favouritekrumpers and always are dressed in the most hottesturbanclothing and rugged-styledfashion. I love it.
