Hello everyone.
It seems that I have been struck by a concussive force of pre-World Cup 2010 fever.
Perhaps it’s the fact that the Confederations Cup 2009 is just about to kick off, or maybe it’s the bombardment of soccer inspired TV adverts…but whatever it is I just can’t stop thinking about football, which my friends will tell you, is extremely odd
I have been thinking long and hard about the kind of fashion we can expect to see at World Cup 2010. Obviously it goes without saying that it’s going to be a casual affair, with the high rollers rocking up in suits and watching the proceedings from their fancy box seats.
Yesterday I commented about the uniquely South African hat called the Makaraba, which may end up being one of the only truly South African World Cup fashion statement.
Although with that said maybe the tourists will buy those mega traditional collared shirts that Madiba is always wearing. I have to say those shirts scare me in the night hahaha.
Have you considered the dates for the FIFA World Cup 2010? (11 June – 11 July 2010)
Is it just me or have the organiser’s gone crackers? Look out the window people.
It seems that the World Cup is going to be help in the middle of our winter, which granted may not be as bad as European winters, but it’s still seriously cold.
Think about Cape Town on this typical winter’s day. Its dark, cold and it’s been raining on and off all day.
That is a TYPICAL day…last week we were hit by a double cold front and storm surges in Sea Point.
Somehow I can’t picture all the gorgeous female Brazilian supporters out there in their bikini tops…no way, no how.
If you are a foreigner coming over to South Africa for World Cup 2010, do yourself favour and pack some warm gear…don’t be fooled by pictures of Lions and sun drenched beaches filled with scantily clad models.
Summer time in South Africa is a totally different story.
So maybe the World Cup 2010 fashion that we will be seeing is lots of jerseys and snugly scarves…I’m sure we would all like to rock up in our shorts and vests, but if this winter is anything to go by…that’s just not going to happen.
I guess we will have to see what other kinds of World Cup fashion will be popping up closer to the time, but just be sure to have a big-ass jacket with the colour of your team packed away just in case.
Maybe you Springleapers out there can tell me about your own personal World Cup fashion style.
Duncs.
