Hi folks
I’m so enthralled with Duncan’s blog on electric t-shirt design, specifically his reference to old school heavy metal bands, I think I’ll use this golden opportunity to inspire or better yet coerce some unknowing designer into designing some awesome metal tees for us here at Springleap! MuHAHAHAHA (evil laugh).
When I say old school the first bands that come to mind are Metallica, Iron Maiden and Led Zepplin. Metallica was as Duncan said very popular with the Lightning Bolt as it was one of their key symbols on tees, album art, well just about any merchandise of theirs had a lightning bolt on. So Evil! HAHA
Maiden t-shirts speak for themselves really as Eddie (their mascot) was the key image in any of their designs. My favourite of their t-shirt range is the promotional ‘Live after death tee’, basically it’s the same as the album art just on a tee, which sees Eddie tearing himself out of a grave.
When I was a kid I used to listen to a lot of Zepplin, not by choice at the time though! My dad was a bit of a ‘hippie rebel’ when he was younger so the tunes and the vibe kind of rubbed off! A lot of Zepplins tee’s today are a bit clichéd with all of the repetition when considering images and fonts but that’s the price for a timeless commercial band!
I think this could be an awesome opportunity to redesign a few of those classic metal t-shirts for our Springleap community, they just need a bit of a fresh touch! Maybe even create a character or two for the above mentioned bands.
