The Power of the Myth in Fashion.

Kung Fu PandaThe power of myths and their influence on fashion, culture, religion and belief are undeniable. We live in a world where everyone has their own mythos which we worship and maintain. So what are myths and why are they central themes to the human condition? Myths are all based on  archetypes, the Child, the Hero, the Great Mother. It was Joseph Campbell who first proposed that all myths and great stories of religion and history shared an alarming amount of common themes. He proposes this in his book Hero with a Thousand Faces, with numerous references to cultures and religions from around the world that all stories are essentially all expressions of the same story pattern. Thus he proposed that all religions’, stories and myths are essentially containers for a universal truth.  The basic structure follows the path of the hero from departure through intiation and finally return. Michelle Obama fashion

Hello and welcome.

When you hear the name Michelle Obama, what is the first thing that springs to mind? That would probably be her husband. Who surely needs no introduction as the acting president of the US.
Its not uncommon for the first lady to be overshadowed by her husband, heck, it would be downright scandalous if he didn’t.
However every now and then a first lady comes along that shines just as brightly as their illustrious husbands. Michelle Obama fashion is sweeping not only the US, but across the entire globe.

There are two main trends that Michelle Obama fashion influences, namely the one-shoulder dress and the colour of the year yellow.
I spoke at great length the other day about yellow being the colour of the spring season. However it seems the rabbit hole went much further than I had originally thought. Through the influence of Michelle Obama fashion it seems that yellow is the colour of the year, according to quite a few sites.
So I guess no matter what you do this year, as long as its yellow, you are rocking the style.
I will most certainly wait until summer before I attempt this colour. Honestly, with my milk bottle white skin, I’d look like I was sick…rather than cool.

Hello one and all.

Yesterday I touched on the fashion trends for spring 2009, however the latest fashion trends are numerous and jamming them all into one posting is frankly, impossible.
As was mentioned, yellow is the colour to watch out for this spring season, as are the geometric prints that seem to be coming hot and heavy.
So what else should we be watching out for this spring/summer??

Tribal prints have recently been on a bit of a back burner it seems. However as the sweaty season approaches the colours and prints have become bolder and more colourful, meaning that it’s time for the outrageous tribal prints to hit the sales floor….or of course get pulled out the closet and given a dusting.
Tribal prints, in my opinion, are extremely difficult to pull off with confidence. Ladies usually end up looking like a future glimpse of “Year 3000 Safari Chic”, more than sophisticated well balanced urban Jane’s. As far as the latest fashion trends go, this one is only meant for a select few, who are gorgeous enough to distract you from what they are wearing altogether.
Guys…stay the hell away from any form of tribal print please…seriously, not even on your underwear. Ouch.
Sticking with the tribal theme, the order of the day as far as accessories go, are chunky earthy necklaces and bangles, which suit the whole jungle chic thing really well….dainty just won’t do it.

The Glow in the Dark T-shirt

There is a legend that a Vulcan Spacecraft traveling faster than the speed of  light crashed in the far reaches of the galaxy on a little known planet called Earth. Left stranded in the strange world of paper currency and line dancing, they had little to trade to survive in that logic deprived place. They soon resorted to trading Vulcan technologies for food and lodging, some of these included Velcro, Titanium Alloys and GLOW IN THE DARK PAINT!

Everyone is surfing in the DAYGLO, including Kanye West’s Tour Glow in the Dark
