Ello ello ello, what have we here?
Those who know me well, know that I am crazy about music and high quality headphones.
Every now and then I feel it is my civic duty to report on the hottest headphones I stumble across.
Last time we scoped out the Aerial 7 range, today let’s take a lookie at the outrageously posh looking headphones from none other than our good friends Nixon…no not the one that was a crook LOL.
Thats right, Nixon now make headphones.
For most of us, including myself up until this morning, thought of the brand Nixon as primarily focussed on producing well made super funky watches.
However it seems Nixon has begun to branch out and use their technical expertise and marketing savvy, to bring us more than just simply things that ‘show us the time’. Nixon headphones are here to give the rest of the high end audio market a run for their money.
But just to warn you, you will need a pockets crammed with cash to enjoy these sound blasting super puppies.
For the moment there are 3 different variations of Nixon headphones available from Nixon.
They seem to cover their bases well in regards t the size and look of the models. They have the small Nixon Wire plugs, which are your standard size with different size silicone moulds for all ear types. Let me just say that the only thing standard about the Wire plugs are the actual headphone type. These little beauties look super slick, I especially like the flat steel external end of the plug, very unique indeed.
There are plenty of colours as well, no matter if you want pitch black plugs or bright candy floss pink plugs, there is something for everybody.
These little demons should sell for about R400…although I suspect that people will try and flog them for more down this side of the world.
Next up we have the “medium model” called the Nomadic, which also come in loads of cool colours and the addition of a mic in some models.
They call these headphones Nixon Nomadic collapsible car cans, because they are compactable and easy to take with you wherever you may roam. They are made from heavy duty nylon and custom foam to make your ears feel like they are in 7th heaven. I reckon the Nomadic are up there in design with any of the top brands. The feedback online about the quality of the sound and power of the bass is also extremely positive.
These bad boys should cost you just over R1000. Well actually R960 from the converted price I found on an overseas site. However somebody on Gumtree is already trying to flog them for R1600.
Who to trust eh????
Last up we have the BIG daddy of the Nixon headphones range, the Master Blaster, which in all honestly is like having small leather couches for your ears.
Ok, so these are obviously the most expensive headphones in the range, they will set you back around 170 pounds…which is like R2040, ouchies!
However the heavy price tag is worth what you are getting. This is what we call TOP comfort and TOP sound…which pretty much means all around perfecto listening pleasure.
Dude what I wouldn’t do for a pair of these amazing headphones. We are talking light weight metal speakers, real leather and a 50mm dynamic driver. This are headphones fit for a sultan my friends.
Santa, if you are out there somewhere…please stuff this in my Christmas stocking.
Nixon headphones look to revolutionize the way we experience our music. With high quality production and a wicked design team, these are going to be off the hook.
Please can anybody who works with Nixon distributing in South Africa please drop me a mail, so that I can help people locate their closest Nixon headphone stocking outlet.
Duncs.

any idea what outlets stock the nixon headphones in cape town? thanx x
Hi there Janita,
To be honest the only spot I have seen them for sure is the The Lot in Canal Walk (opposite Exclusive Books).
I think A-store on Kloof had some too…but I’m not 100% sure about that!
