Well, well, well, it seems the Playstation 3 Slim has finally struck in Japan.
For those of you who remember, a little while back I did a blog about the new Playstation 3 Slim model and the affect that Sony hoped it would have on the market, especially the Japanese sector.
Well it seems the usual gamble of slimming down their console has proved a wise decision.
When the Playstation 2 slim was released way back when it significantly boosted the consoles sales around the world, because Sony was seriously lagging in the gaming console sales war, they repeated the move which gave them a significant “power up” last time around.
We can talk all day about how much it’s helped, however the proof is in the pudding.
It has just been announced that Sony Playstation 3 has recorded its biggest ever weekly sales in Japan since the release of the PS3 back in November 2006. SERIOUSLY!!!!
Yep, its all thanks to the Slim!
So how many units were sold over this super week for Sony? The official count for the Playstation 3 Slim is 150,252. Jeezu that is some serious sales!
I have to say that I was mildly SHOCKED, especially when we are on the cusp of a new Xbox 360 console coming out as soon as 2010-2011.
However, maybe this is exactly the breathing space Sony needs before they make their move for the Playstation 4.
By the sounds of it the new Xbox 360 ‘pumped up’ console is going to be a monster. Basically it won’t be a whole new generation of console my Microsoft, but a super upgrade, much like what the Wii console did with the modification of the GameCube hardware.
So when I say NEW Xbox…it won’t be a tech jump quite like we have seen in the past with the other consoles, but more of a boost in power, which will be significant in any case.
I almost caved to my craving for the Playstation 3 Slim, however I think I may just hold out for the Xbox Natal (Natal is the name of new tech for the Xbox…not the province LOL)…or whatever the hell they name it.
Congrats to Sony for the comeback. Let us see if you guys can still climb back up to the top of the console war standings.
