Cats musical

Meow to you all!

Here is some grand news for all of you theatre lovers out there. The Cats musical will be gracing our countries best stages for the second time around. Thats right, Andrew Llyod Webber’s extremely popular stage play is back and ready to captivate a whole new generation of theatre goers.
If you haven’t heard of Cats before, now is the time to sit up and take notice. This production may just transform a non-believer into an avid groupie of theatre.

Ok for those of you who are in the dark about this magical production, here is the basic storyline:
The story unfolds in a junkyard where all of the local cats are auditioning to be selected by Old Deuteronomy, who is their leader, to travel to the Heavyside lair to be reborn.
The outcast glamour cat Grizabella is shunned by the rest of the cats, however she is adamant to be included in the festivities of The Jellicle Ball.

I think I better leave it at that, I don’t want to spoil anything for anybody.

The Cats musical is in actual fact based on ‘Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats’ and a myriad of other poems by none other than T.S. Eliot.
Cats first took to the stage in West End way back in 1981 (the year I was born) and has found its way all across the globe and has been translated into more than 20 different languages…which is just insane.
I think you will be surprised at how many songs you will already know from the Cats musical, but just didn’t realize that was where they came from. It’s strange to think how many of Andrew Llyod Webbers songs permeate our lives…he truly is a master.

The Cats musical will be playing at the Cape Town Artscape Opera House (from 29th November) and the Johannesburg Teatro Montecasino (from 26th September). I have been to both of these venues and am happy to say that they are both fantastic and will undoubtedly help to take the performance to a whole new level.
Considering that the tickets sold out for every single performance last time, I’d say that it would be a good idea to start thinking about acquiring some tickets before you are left disappointed.
I have mine already thank goodness *whew*.

Do yourself a favour and surf across to the Cats Musical homepage and organize some tickets asap.

Duncs.
