Fire away into the unknown of the creative universe.
Photography is an art! Yes indeed, theres more to simply pointing a camera at something and pressing a button, in order to create a truly beautiful and lasting image. These days we have auto-focus, digital ammo clips and even cell phone cameras with 5 mega-pixels. Holy cow, the future sure did arrive with a serious BANG…click…wirrrrrr!
There is however serious groups of people who still enjoy the older form of photography using good old fashioned film and techniques. The movement called Lomography is a worldwide photographic phenomenon that prides itself on using old school cameras that use analogue film.
Another important aspect of this form of photography is that it is more artistic than simply clicking a bunch of smiling family members at a wedding. While in essence there are no rules in Lomography, there are however a list of Ten Golden Rules that are used as a rough guideline: 1. Take your camera everywhere you go.
2. Use it any time – day and night.
3. Lomography is not an interference in your life, but part of it.
4. Try the shot from the hip.
5. Approach the objects of your Lomographic desire as close as possible.
6. Don’t think.(William Firebrace)
7. Be fast.
8. You don’t have to know beforehand what you captured on film.
9. Afterwards either.
10. Don’t worry about any rules.
I think the last rule on the list pretty much sums up, just how serious you need to be when venturing into the crazy world of Lomography. It’s all about getting back to basics and attempting to rekindle the magic that cameras used to represent.
Perhaps the most well known lomo style camera is the Lomo Kompakt Automat (LC-A). Which became extremely popular back in the early 90’s. However there are a span of cameras with different lenses and attachments these days.
I reckon a lekker cool Lomo camera is high on my Santa Xmas wish list
Get snapping the retro way with Lomographic madness.
