Hi there all you snap happy boys and girls.
After I mentioned Lomography the other day I thought I may as well check around and see if there were any groovy photographic exhibitions going on. Everybody needs something to feast their eyes on, right?
Well, I guess the stars must be right, because there will be a very interesting exhibition coming up in the not so distant future in Cape Town.
Ladies and gentleman I give you The Carnal Carnival Show.
The Carnal Carnival Show takes a look at how we “explore perceptions, attitudes and observations associated with representations of the human form.”
The carnival aspect of the show dives into the many faceted ideas of how we celebrate and indulge. Indeed the show sounds like it will be a sumptuous feast for the eyes.
The second aspect of the show is the world ‘carnal’ which as they state on the flyer “suggests sensual appetites associated with the flesh”. I guess the subject of sexuality elicited through photography will always be a theme that all humans, in one way or another, can identify with.
This doesn’t necessarily mean you are some dodgy sex fiend who just wants to look at pornographic material…not at all. Indeed nudity and inflections of the flesh can be very artistic and meaningful given the right eye and frame of mind.
Leah Hawker will be the curator for the show and be able to guide anyone who has questions on the pieces. I’m really looking forward to this exhibition and if last year’s exhibition has anything to say about the level of photographic excellence, then this will undoubtedly be a show to mark in your diaries.
