Hi there all.
Last night we travelled across to Bay Side mall in order to watch the new Inglorious Basterds movie. Alas, there was something wrong with our projector so we had to wait like 3 hours for it to be fixed. After sitting in Spur for more than an hour we decide we would rather die than stick around any longer. So, we jumped in the car and left. En route back to Sea Point we decided to check out the Eastern Food Bazaar on Darling Street. It was just as well we didn’t go to the flick because we would have missed out on this wicked tantalizing bazaar. Perhaps it was fated
The first thing you have to realize about the Eastern Food Bazaar if that it is stretched into what almost feels like an alley bazaar, like you get overseas. The vibe is awesome and the people were friendly…which helps. I have to say that it draws a seriously diverse group of customers as well. The last time I felt a vibe like this was when I used to grab lunch in the Camden Town market in London.
The one thing that seems to irk people about the Eastern Food Bazaar is that you must pay your money first and then take your slip to an appropriate counter, where the food is then made. I honestly I don’t see the problem here. It’s kinda like a mega awesome canteen. Plus you get to see them make your food, which is also pretty interesting. Perhaps it’s just the lazy people who want to be served, rather than standing and waiting. BIG DEAL.
The range of Eastern foods is also really huge. They have different counters for different regions of food, heck they even have a more Chinese food counter where you can get some lekker chicken noodle dishes…which is what I settled on. I think my noodle dish was called “hakka noodles”. It was actually pretty good value as well. R30 for a phat serving, which I just managed to finish.
If you wanna take your food and sit down, there are also tables and chairs available to perch. Next time we go, we will definitely eat in and enjoy the atmosphere.
Seriously it was such a pleasant surprise to finally discover this place. I have been hearing about it for ages, from various people and they all sing its praises. I guess I will join the choir.
Do yourself a favour and head on down. If you like Eastern food, then this bazaar will be heaven for you.
All you need to do is rock up at: The Wellington, Darling Street, Cape Town.
Duncs.
