There seems to be a growing trend for submissions on Springleap.com theme competitions.
It’s actually bit of a strange one. People are submitting designs into theme competitions, which have absolutely no correspondence with the theme. LoL very strange indeed…wrong theme, yes indeed.
In this last competition it seemed that I could spilt the category of misplaced submissions into 2 groups:
1. those who had no idea about the theme and just submitted an arbitrary design anyway.
2. those who tried to pass of their designs as rock orientated, when they clearly are not.
First off let em say that the theme “Hard of Rock” is in actual fact a rather specific genre of rock. Ina past posting I actually said that it was a rather broad theme…but once I actually considered it again, realized that HARD of ROCK….is indeed HEAVY…not the tulips and roses that got submitted.
Here are a few examples of designs that, I felt, fell into the wrong theme:
Trabe’s Say it with Flowers, is first up. Jeez this is a cool design and would probably stand a great chance in a theme competition that was geared towards Video Games. However, this is definitely a case of No.1 syndrome. I recon Trabe just sent away and didn’t even realize that it was going into a restricted compo.
It’s a real pity, but I’m sure he will resubmit it, when the time is right. Wrong theme buddy.
Next up we have a serious case of No.2 by Kingslip. This one is called, I should be rockin.
Ok, firstly there is a lion’s head….what rock reference is there here? And a tie, which is also completely arb. On the lions tie it says “I should be rockin”. But is this enough? What is the idea behind this one?
Is it the fact that the lion is the king of beasts but cannot play an instrument…hence, I should be rockin?
This is the only thing I can possibly think of. Needless to say there are actually a few fans in the Springleap.com HQ, who really dig this. Maybe I should ask them if I’m missing something crucial here.
My last example is Pray by Againstxme. Actually, the reason I got stuck on this design in the first place, was because I thought that it might be a rip of one of the new Iron Fist designs. But apparently it is not….so yay.
However my grievances stacked when I read his design info. He said, “I enjoy drawing hands so I kinda did this and threw in the scroll and the roses just to give it that kinda rock edge.”
Dude, scroll + roses = Rock? I think not. Anyway, let’s see how warmly the rest of the community receives his design. U never know, some people may think it’s the best thing since Crazy Glue. Category No.2
Anyways, what can you do boys and girls. Let’s hope that there are reasons for these design glitches.
