Shut off from the world around you…the mind starts to twist…the mind starts to revert to a more primal state.
What would happen to you if you were cut off from the world you know, by an invisible force? Panic, fear, shock….all rolled into a big ball of paranoia.
This is the premise of the latest novel by horror writing genius Stephen King.
Under the Dome has arrived in a bookstore near you….just in time for a bit of Christmas terror.
Under the Dome is set in the quiet country town of Chester’s Mills in Maine. On a seemingly normal day an invisible force field surrounds the town, cutting off the townsfolk from the rest of the world. The force field is impenetrable. Cars and planes crash into it and explode on impact.
A small rag-tag group of citizens team up to try and find out what is going down, but they are blocked by a strange politician who is bent on retaining his power…even in the face of insane incidents.
Time for the citizens is running out Under the Dome itself…how long will they last? How long before they all go insane and start turning on each other? If I know Stephen King…not very long!
The story itself is supposedly based on an older work of Stephen King called The Cannibals (which I suppose also hints at what happens). When he was younger he tried to finish the story, but it proved too vast for him to handle at that time.
This is a BIG BOOK. Try over 1500 pages big. Dude, that is a monster book. I’m honestly almost too frightened to attempt it LOL.
I’m interested to see what kind of emotions Under the Dome evokes. I love watching/reading scary stories. I think it takes real genius to write a story that has you curled up and shivering with fear. With movies it’s easy. Submerging yourself into dark visuals and eerie music seems to have the ability to move people with much less effort. But, with writing it takes skill and of course a good imagination.
Under the Dome is out now…so shoot across and buy it for your book reading buddies that aren’t afraid of the dark.
D.
