We all knew it wasn’t going to be easy!
Last night I was watching the 2010 World Cup draw and I have to say, I was sweating a little ![]()
South Africa has quite a long way to go before it is on par with the rest of the football world. Plus with the loss of our coach and the replacement of an older one that left us in the lurch, you have to wonder what our chances are.
The 2010 World Cup draw was actually pretty interesting…the draw placement, not the irritating Theron circus lol.
South Africa sits in what is most certainly a dangerous group. Group A consists of South Africa, France, Uruguay and Mexico. Every single one of these opponents are hungry for victory and it won’t be easy to best a team like France, let alone the opening match against Mexico.
Honestly look at the spread. There are no mega-power groups at all. Every single group seems to have one clear power house, which has the potential to smoke the rest very easily.
Here are the groups:
GROUP A:
1. South Africa (my fav)
2. France (group fav)
3. Uruguay
4. Mexico
Comment – France is a monster team, I’d imagine they would clinch this group, but miracles do happen. Go SA!
GROUP B:
1. Nigeria (my fav)
2. Argentina (group fav)
3. Greece
4. Korea Republic
Comment – Argentina is probably the strongest of this group, however Greece and Korea both have the skill to surprise. Nigeria is my favourite for this group, because they are African and also a brilliant team.
GROUP C:
1. Algeria
2. USA
3. England (group fav/ my fav)
4. Slovenia
Comment – England has the opportunity to leap frog straight to the final matches with this group. Who in this group is up to the challenge? Could the Americans surprise us? I hope not LOL
GROUP D:
1. Ghana
2. Australia (my fav)
3. Germany (group fav)
4. Serbia
Comment – While I don’t mind Germany and wouldn’t be bummed if they won this group, I would still like to see an antipodean team go through.
GROUP E:
1. Japan (my fav)
2. Denmark
3. Netherlands (group fav)
4. Cameroon
Netherlands have always been a remarkable side, I’m sure that they will come out on tops here. However, my heart hopes that Japan goes through. I’m pretty much obsessed with Japan, so I support them in basically everything hahaha. Ganbatte!!!!
GROUP F:
1. New Zealand (my fav)
2. Italy (group fav)
3. Paraguay
4. Slovakia
Comment – Seriously if Italy doesn’t destroy this group, I will be shocked. I want New Zealand to go through, because of the same reasons I want Australia to kick butt. This is another easy group for the top dog (Italy).
GROUP G:
1. Portugal (group fav/ my fav)
2. Brazil
3. Ivory Coast
4. Korea DPR
Comment - Portugal is not only my Group G favourite, but from what I have heard, also one of the favourite for the entire World Cup. Portugal vs. Brazil is going to be a colossal battle!
This may be one of the best groups to watch in the early stages.
GROUP H:
1. Chile
2. Switzerland
3. Honduras
4. Spain
Comment - Spain has been hailed by the bookies as THE top team capable of lifting the World Cup trophy.
This group is going to be mashed up into little pieces by the Spanish attack.
While I am worried about SA, I will still pump all the good energy that I can muster into the cosmos, in order to help Bafana Bafana. I suggest you all do the same!
We are on home soil and we have our entire nation behind us 100%, we can do it, come on guys and girls.
The 2010 World Cup draw may have been rather evil this time around. But that does not mean we are entirely without hope. All it will take is some team cohesion and focus. Let’s hope we don’t do the typical “show boating” thing. There is no ‘I’ in team after all.
Duncs.
