Hi all you party goers out there.
It is very seldom that I mange to pull myself away from my chilled existence and my books (which I love).
However, every now and then I get pulled out to some new club to experience the evolution of the South African night life. Not much has changed, well besides the girls getting younger and the skirts even shorter (if thats possible)…where are these girls parents LOLZ?
Last night a few friends and I headed over to The Ivy League club on Long Street.
Interesting time indeed!
The Ivy League club “NOW OPEN”, on their site, suggests that there club is relatively new. Well, that, or they need to update their site.
The club itself is situated directly above the well known Purple Turtle and offers quite a nice layout.
Of course it wouldn’t be a full on Long Street jol without a great balcony seat, overlooking the crazy antics of one of the greatest party spots in the country. Even the car guards are amazing. Last night we had some guy doing a brilliant Michael Jackson dance routine….not to mention running back flips into traffic. Yep, you gotta love the craziness that is Long Street.
The club itself is pretty well laid out. There is supposedly an electro dance floor downstairs somewhere, but we headed upstairs where our friends were perched.
I have to say that the music was actually pretty good. I’m more of a psy-trance fan. So you can imagine the way I danced…pretty much like I was trapped in air as thick as soup. I had to swim my way out hehe ![]()
I did manage to settle down and get into the dance mood eventually. All was going well until I elbowed some young, unfortunately “bad -heighted” girl, in the head, whilst showing my buddy the infamous sprinkler dance move. *ching ching ching—KATWANG*.
I felt bad! But luckily the girl was so dopped I don’t think she even felt it
Wednesday nights are pretty fun. The music is commercial. However, that is exactly what they are going for.
So I suppose we can call it “commercially viable”. They pumped what seemed almost minimalist floor fillers at times. Which I enjoyed immensely!
The Wednesday night crowd is definitely for the younger crowd/students/dirty older men.
The resident Dj’s Jet and Yaron, did a fine job and kept the dance floor pretty much packed for most of the evening.
I just had to resist the urge to reach across the decks and steal their Aerial7 headphones though LOL.
NOTE TO SELF: Keep hands in pockets, things that don’t belong to you…DONT!
Of course what would The Ivy League club be without great booze specials?
8-10: R6
Black Label, Castle, Havanna Club, Red Heart Rum, Ramazzotti, Olmeca Tequila, Wine, Vodka, Gin, Brandy, Sambuca, Malibu, Cane, Spiced Gold, Sourz.
8-12: R6
Vodka, Gin, Brandy, Cane, Sambuca, Malibu, Spiced Gold, Sourz.
Oh and something called the K-way mix for R4. God knows what this is. I thought it was some kind of beverage for hiking trips
The Ivy League also hosts a Friday & Sarturday night party.
I will have to experience them before I say anything. But if last night was anything to go on, it could be a truck load of fun. I especially wanna hit the night party that has a slightly Fridayolder crowd.
Nice one to The Ivy League. We had a most splendid jol. Keep up the good work.
D.
