Vaudeville

Vaudeville

High flying acts, strong men, beautiful dancing ladies and great food!
This pretty much sums up the amazing evening the Springleap.com team shared last night at Cape Town’s newest supper theatre Vaudeville.
I knew that the theatre is set up in the Burlesque tradition, but I was still surprised by the top notch performance and unique setting.
If you like to laugh, sing and applaud, all whilst gorging on scrumptious food…look no further.

We arrived to a glass of bubby and friendly Vaudeville staff. The atmosphere was charged with anticipation, expectations were high and you could see that everyone was eager to see the performances.
As many will know The Fez Club, which is well known by Capetonians, has reopened in conjunction with Vaudeville. The Fez’s Moroccan style melds wonderfully with the decadent bohemian style of Vaudeville.
The vaudeville theatre isn’t quite as big as I thought it would be, especially considering it’s a 300 seater. However, this means very little, because the overall size works well in creating an intimate setting, which helps to immerse you in the action.

Perhaps one of the most unique aspects are the actors that wander around the Vaudeville supper theatre dressed to the nines in full costume. The wandering characters were tons of fun and really got involved with the crowd. Eran even got accosted by a lady with “many boobs” LOL. Now that was funny.
My favourite character was this odd half-man half-penguin weirdo, who waddled around looking odd and helping out with the trapeze equipment.

As for the acts themselves…all I can say is WOW!
The show has 19 acts, which range from singing and dancing, to feats of strength and break dancing.
Perhaps that is what was so amazing about the acts, is that they were so diverse. There is definitely something for everyone. My favourite act of the evening was a gymnastic couple who whirled around each other with breathtaking symmetry. I had to close my mouth every two seconds because I realized it was agape LOL.
Perhaps the highlight of the evening for most guy’s, was the exceptionally “talented” dancing showgirls.
RWOAR, there were some good looking ladies….hopefully my girlfriend wont slap me for saying so hehehe (I love u babe).

The food was pretty good! I can be damn fussy when it comes to food, but I was happy with what we received. The portions were a tad small for my liking, but overall nicely plated and it tasted great. I ordered the free range Namibian sirloin with chunky chips. Was very nice, but I wanted mine more rare…I did ask, but hey.
Eric and jade both ordered the butternut, pea and lemon zest risotto, which was extremely rich…but damn amazing. In hind-sight I would have definitely gone for the risotto. Luckily jade got full quick and gave me the rest of hers, THANKS JADE :D
My only qualm about the menu was that I showed up not knowing what menu was going to be run. There are 5 Vaudeville menus in total, one per night. Maybe they tell the person that booked, but I never knew what was going down. I’m the type of guy who likes to know what he’s getting before he arrives.

After the show we headed across to The Fez to check it out. It’s upstairs from the Vaudeville and overlooked the stage. The Moroccan theme really works well, it’s chilled and mega-relaxing. I will most certainly be heading back there with my buddies for a jol some time soon.

So overall I recommend that you go across and experience the Vaudeville magic. It’s one of those events that is undoubtedly special. I take my hat off to the performers who made our night amazing. I also wish Vaudeville the greatest luck in the future. I have no doubt that they will be frequently changing up their act and pulling in performers from all over the world to blow our minds.

Duncs.
