Ho ho ho and a bottle of rum!
These days I reckon the above poke at Christmas is actually pretty close to the truth.
What is the meaning of Christmas, where does the celebration draw its origins from?
Obviously if you come from a Christian household you will be well aware of what this holiday means.
However, as the years roll by, I see less and less people, celebrating Christmas for what it really is.
Well at least what the day is supposed to represent.
Most people like to think of Christmas as the birth of Jesus and of course as a very important part of the Christian calendar…in fact it is the most important date they have.
It’s sad to see how far this holiday has actually fallen from what it is supposed to represent.
No it’s not merry Christmas….its happy “holidays”. Dude, why doesn’t that kind of thing reciprocate with festivals like Diwali for example?
Has Christianity become synonymous as a repressive faith of the conqueror? Maybe the meaning of Christmas becomes something altogether dark for some people.
Look I’m by no mean what you would call a religious fellow. However I hate to see tradition fall by the way side and become a commercial holiday instead. It seems that kids from all religious backgrounds have some form of Christmas. While they may not be singing carols and going to mass, they are still partaking in the present giving experience at least. I’m surprised that this holiday can be so easily integrated…is it not a slap in the face for their own particular faith?
What I love most about Christmas is not the gifts, or the sparkly tree. But rather the day itself and how it brings families together. Sometimes it’s only on Christmas that a whole family gets to see each other….this is indeed something special.
If we ignore the religious significance and purely look at the day on a familial level, it is still a truly powerful day.
So, to all the people celebrating Christmas, no matter if you are Christian or not, enjoy the day and have an absolute blast with your family. The meaning of Christmas: It’s all about love boys and girls! Take the time to care about others during this season, have empathy and do your best to mend bridges. It may seem like a bad time to do so…but in fact I think it’s probably the best time of all.
Merry Christmas one and all!
Duncs.
