The Expendables

Explosions, mayhem and a good double tot of napalm!

There has been news of an action movie in the pipeline that is set to blow us away on such a level as to be the creation of a new action classic.
How long has it been since we had an action movie that became iconic? Perhaps the most recent attempt that made us sit up and take notice was Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds, which took a novel spin on the whole Nazi war movie theme. However the latest movie to promise big things is The Expendables, which will be directed and starred in by Sylvester Stallone.

The basic premise for The Expendables is that it is about a team of mercenaries led into some South American country and take out its evil dictator that is making the lives of its people a living hell. The team led by Stallone’s Character, head out on a mission that is supposed to be routine, but along the way all sorts of twist and turns take their mission on a very different course. Ok, so it may not sound overly impressive or even original…hell it sounds like it could be on e-tv’s Friday Action Night LOL. However, it’s not the basic movie plot that draws me to this action flick, it’s the actors that will be supporting Sylvester.

Lucky as buck

Have you ever been in a dangerous situation where you felt that you were lucky to be alive afterwards?
Yep, it’s happened to me a few times in my life…but never like this! Can you imagine the scene of a bunch of cheetahs surrounding a baby impala, only to just leave it completely alone? Not only did they not eat this cute little guy, they actually licked it and played around with it…like it was one of the guys.
Obviously cheetahs are not usually such friendly animals…but this freakishly rare scene does happen!

When I think about friendly animals, my mind quickly jumps to soft kitties, Staffordshire terriers with their smiling faces, maybe some well trained horses….but cheetahs? While many South African TV watchers are familiar with the relatively tamed cheetahs of the Spier Wine Estates Cheetah programme, a wild cheetah whom has to fight for his food is something altogether different.
If you were to run up to a cheetah you would most likely get munched on very quickly. In normal situations impala and cheetah don’t get along…indeed the impala is one of the cheetahs favourite snacksyumyum.
So why the hell did these cheetah simply leave this little buck alone?

Faces of Africa

Hello there design fans.

Now that we have just announced our winner and the voting has started for our 35 Nations of Football, it’s time to look at the next design theme that we want artists to take a look at.
This one is definitely a design that the local South African submission crew will have the upper hand in.
This latest theme competition is an ode to the people that grew our wonderful nation through the struggle during the dark days of Apartheid, in order to give us a country building itself towards a future of equality.
This is Faces of Africa!

Springleap.com in collaboration with African Cream Records, wants to produce an opportunity for all designers to get involved in shaking up our local tourist, “Africanesque” style and take it into the next level. Basically what this t-shirt collaboration aims to do is target the tourist-market that will be coming across to our fine country and present them with an African design that is a little bit more than your typical African curio style. While the winning design will end up in curio stores and other visitor hotspots, we still want it to be African, but with a tad more edge and interest.
With the World Cup coming up very soon and the obvious landslide of tourism, we think it’s a fine idea to get a partnership like this going. Can you imagine how many foreigners will be going home with your winning design, spreading the gospel of your design prowess and the Springleap.com mission? This could be really, really great!
