Greetings friends.
I’m always blown away by people who can see worth in an item that 99% of people would think is simple trash.
Katie Thompson is one of these visionaries.
She takes arbitrary items like old suitcases, buckets, milk pales and fire extinguisher cases and turns them into unique pieces of furniture. Each one of these “recreated” pieces have so much personality and simple funk, that their true wonder and ingenuity is unmistakable.
Yes sir, I do believe that Katie has really come up with something truly special here.
The first design that I saw of hers was her, now famous, suitcase chairs. While inside your ‘Better Taste Alarm’ may start firing saying, “common common”. I feel that these are design that grow on you veeeery quickly! I can just picture her suitcase chairs in little funky coffee shops, or in a cosy corner reading spot in a library. Each seat is unique and fit into its own special environment.
You either have a interior design piece that add to a space, or simply makes the space…I feel Katie Thompson and her styling suitcase fall into the latter category.
Another piece that I really liked was her recreated fire extinguisher casing, which she has converted into a cupboard. It’s definitely one hot cupboard hehe! I’d dig to see this in a youngster’s room, or in a particularly funky home office. Yep, maybe not a good idea to stick this in a large office setting because people might get confused where the bloody fire extinguisher actually lives. Imagine running through smoke and fumbling open the casing only to find knives and forks….that would most certainly be a huge wtf moment ![]()
Despite this, these mega funky cupboards add special flava to an otherwise boring setting.
There are a whole host of crazy cool items that you will find on Katie Thompson’s site: Here is the LINK.
Laters all.
Duncs.
