Polaroid PoGo

Polaroid PoGo

Ello ello.

Whilst cruising around the net looking for any new and exciting gadgets I came across a rather surprising little toy from Polaroid, which takes the future of printing on the move.
Ever wanted to print out an image while you were out and about with friends and family?
The Polaroid PoGo is a gadget that makes this possible, in an oh-so stylish manner.

For many years Polaroid were the kings of instant picture processing cameras. Unfortunately the company has since ditched the cameras, much to the dismay of many stalwart Polaroid fans.
However, these days this forward thinking company has swayed away from the camera aspect and instead focussed its powers on portable printing. The Polaroid PoGo is basically a small printer that is slim enough to stuff in your pocket and simply gogogo!

I can think of quite a few instances when this handy little gadget would come in handy. Maybe you are out with a friend, take an awesome photo and want to give it to them too. Instead of just sending it via Bluetooth, why not rather send it to the PoGo printer and give them a hardcopy, which will mean a lot more. Want to impress a girl at a party, take her picture and come back 5 minutes later with her own snap to remember.
I have always been a fan of Polaroid pictures for the same reason as I love the PoGo. The picture has so much more value because it’s something tangible, plus done there and then. Anybody can email you the picture or stick it on freaking Facebook…but to print out an image on demand is something special!

So how the hell does this thing work? I mean does it have small capsules of ink that you need to stick in somewhere and spend more and more money on as the pictures begin to fade? NO WAY NO HOW, the Polaroid PoGo is a rather clever little fellow that makes use of the new ZINK imaging paper.
ZINK paper is all about using absolutely no form of inks, coated films, or traditional ribbons. Thats right friends, no ink! Confused? Don’t worry, so was I  lol :P
Well, basically ZINK paper is able to produce a perfect full colour image because of the 3 transparent layers of crystals which coat the ZINK paper. These layers are then heated by a t
hermal print head, which sends waves through each of layers in order to activate the crystals that are responsible for whatever colour is trying to be achieved. Shooo, how ingenious is that!

So how much will the ammo cost for these Polaroid PoGo printers?
Well from what I can find online, it appears that it will set you pack 15 pounds for a 6-pack.
So I’d imagine these things will cost us around R180 for a pack.
Hmmm, that does sound mildly painful to me actually.
However ****, it seems on Amazon I have found a 30-pack of ZINK sheets for $10….HUH??? Have I been looking at two completely different things? I mean that works out to about R80 a pack, which calculates to roughly R2.60 a picture…which I reckon is pretty damn good.
Please, please, please can somebody out there confirm the price of ZINK paper packs for me. It would be muchly appreciated!

So overall I’m giving the Polaroid PoGo a Duncan rating of: 6/10
As yet I am not sure about how much the paper actually costs, until I do I think the 15 pound pack is insane. But do not doubt, this is one styling little piece of fun. I still want one L

    Hi Duncs.

I’ve just bought a Polaroid PoGo printer from Amazon UK for £18.39 with free delivery to U.K. the one I got is black, you will pay much more for the couloured varieties like red or pink.
I got some of the zink paper too 70 sheets for £12.99.(18p a pic) Soon afer I noticed someone selling a pack of 90 for £14.75 (16p a pic) so I ordered a pack of them too, also with free delivery to U.K.
