Once said to be the most powerful weapon in two universes…well at least comic universes, the Green lantern Power Ring has become more iconic than some super heroes will ever be. It’s never been a surprise why the Green Lantern comic book has always been a huge draw for the massive DC Comics universe.
Indeed the Green lantern is one of the few DC characters that runs around randomly across the known universe as he pleases, unlike most other superheroes who stick to their own cities.
Yep, Green lantern sure does get around. His most recent accomplishment is receiving the nod for his very own live action Green Lantern movie. Nice one Hal!
I must admit I seem to have had my blinkers on. Usually I’m pretty clued up when it comes to the mass of comic book movies that are out or impending, but Green lantern seems to have been one that flew under my radar. In most cases I’d even be upset, but in this case I’m pretty freaking stoked. When a movie that I’m truly looking forward to is in production and the trailers eventually start flying out, I do my best to avoid them in order to keep a bit of the mystery.
For the most part I’m pretty excited, but to tell the truth the lead role which will be played by Ryan Reynolds, has me slightly worried to say the least.
Check it out. I’m not saying Ryan Reynolds is a bad actor, not at all. In fact he did a great job as Deadpool in the latest Wolverine movie. However, I just can’t picture his comical face doing any justice to the role of Hal Jordan, The Green Lantern movie needs a more sharer, less big eyed, soft featured look. Well, that is if they decide to use Hal Jordan as the Green Lantern, I feel it is highly improbable that they decide to use the very first Green lantern from the Golden Age, or one of the subsequent Lanterns like Guy Gardner for instance. But, hey you never know what these Hollywood bigwigs will decide when it comes to comic book movies…I mean just look at the dark alley that the Spiderman movies went down SM3 was one of the worst movies I had ever seen.
The next question is who will face our hero in battle. As far as I know Sinestro, who was also originally part of the Green Lanterns, took on the role as his long running nemesis. However, there are mentions online that Sinestro may fit into the timeline where he was still fighting alongside the likes of Hal Jordan.
Personally I think it would be a better match for Green Lantern to go against somebody a touch tamer than Sinestro hehehe. We all know how mad it was when a rather rookie Spiderman took on frikkin Venom…and won *groan*.
If I hear any more I will definitely let you know. This could be one seriously good movie adaptation of a comic book. There has been a spate of not so good ones recently, so I hope that DC can raise the bar here. One of the most crucial elements of the new Green lantern movie will be how they CG the effects of the Power Ring. Dude, it has such potential to be a visual feast, let’s just pray that it doesn’t look shabby and too shiny cutesy. Yes it’s a comic book movie and yes there will be loads of kiddies…but seriously lets add a touch of darkness (it should be set in space, so plenty darkness there lol) and grit.
What do u all think about the Green Lantern movie? Will it blow the house down…or just simply blow?
Duncs.
