Hello there design fans.
Now that we have just announced our winner and the voting has started for our 35 Nations of Football, it’s time to look at the next design theme that we want artists to take a look at.
This one is definitely a design that the local South African submission crew will have the upper hand in.
This latest theme competition is an ode to the people that grew our wonderful nation through the struggle during the dark days of Apartheid, in order to give us a country building itself towards a future of equality.
This is Faces of Africa!
Springleap.com in collaboration with African Cream Records, wants to produce an opportunity for all designers to get involved in shaking up our local tourist, “Africanesque” style and take it into the next level. Basically what this t-shirt collaboration aims to do is target the tourist-market that will be coming across to our fine country and present them with an African design that is a little bit more than your typical African curio style. While the winning design will end up in curio stores and other visitor hotspots, we still want it to be African, but with a tad more edge and interest.
With the World Cup coming up very soon and the obvious landslide of tourism, we think it’s a fine idea to get a partnership like this going. Can you imagine how many foreigners will be going home with your winning design, spreading the gospel of your design prowess and the Springleap.com mission? This could be really, really great!
The Faces of Africa theme competition is simple. Think of all of the various personalities that have shaped our country into the land it is today. Consider the various political members who fought for equal rights during the struggle like our iconic ex-president Nelson Mandela . There are few faces that typify South African society quite like Mandela. His iconic face has been used in a thousand and one different t-shirt designs already…but I can assure you that there will be people in this competition who will use his face in their design. I don’t think that is boring or over used, I feel there is always room for advancement, even if it’s through a well used proxy.
I’m not saying that Faces of Africa has to be based around political figures, no not at all. Why not think about using popular musicians like Ladysmith Black Mambazo, or that old school group Mango Groove. WoW, now that is taking me back to my youth, it’s such fun optimistic music.
The list of iconic Faces of Africa, are honestly limitless!
Come on all you designers out there, it’s time to pounce on this one with full force.
