Hello everybody.
I trust that you are all having a wonderful weekend so far!
Today I was reading that the well known television talent show host Simon Cowell will be leaving his extremely popular spot on Idols when his contract expires at the end of this season.
For many it’s a very sad day indeed, while others are looking to the next season wondering who will fill his shoes and indeed, fill them in the same way.
Word around the digital campfire is that the reigns will be taken up by none other than radio megastar Howard Stern as the new Idols presenter, good, bad, ugly? You decide!
Everybody knows that Simon Cowell play one brilliant “bastard character”. It’s his job to be overly critical and appear like the cold hearted villain of the show….yep, I know to a certain extent it’s just the role he plays and that in real life I’m sure he’s a much nicer chap, but on Idols he does a brilliant job as the baddie.
So will Howard Stern be able to step up and knock that ball right out the park? Personally I feel that there is a long way to go before Stern can surpass the job done by Cowell. In fact Cowell has almost become an iconic figure in the Idols franchise…a mainstay if you will.
While his leaving shouldn’t be capable of destroying the show completely, I still think that rating have the potential of dropping. When you sign on a new idols presenter you have the chance of scaring off older fans of the show!
Then again in the States everything is about hype! Howard Stern is already a huge house hold name in America and there is no doubt that there will be loyal fans eager to get a glimpse of their favourite radio personality, giving his rather sharp edged opinion on Idols. However will his personality translate well into the role of an Idols judge? I’m not completely sold on the idea, but the proof will be in the proverbial pudding…let’s hope he doesn’t taste sour LOL.
Producers have said that Howard Stern has the potential to be even nastier than Cowell. Yeah, sure of course he can be if he really puts his mind to it…any idiot could honestly. The difference is that Simon Cowell plays the role so well, he may be nasty, but it seems like part of his personality. If producers put the pressure on Stern to deliver a killer ‘bastard performance’, he may go overboard and instead cheapen the role of show hardliner.
It will be very interesting to see how Howard Stern does as the new Idols presenter. I’m holding thumbs that he doesn’t go overboard and instead acts his usual “charming self” LOL.
Duncs.
