Hello there one and all.
For many collecting vinyl toys goes far beyond being a simple hobby and transcends into the realm of near obsession. I myself had a penchant for funky colourful vinyl toys back when I was living in London and could afford them hehe.
However these days I’m left only buying the ones that really make me sweat. Unfortunately the vinyl toy revolution never hit in SA quite as hard as it did overseas, however there are a diligent few who really push the movement as much as possible.
The issue is that there are very few dedicated spots that sell good vinyl toys in Cape Town. So where do you turn?
Well pretty much as far as vinyl toys in Cape Town goes we are stuck navigating between one or two niche destination stores, which makes things pretty difficult. On the top of my list for vinyl toy destinations is the small “weelie stand” at the V&A Waterfront. Toitoy has been around for quite some time now, but they never fail to impress me with their awesome selection and friendly help. I just wish that one day they trade up and get a full on store dedicated to all things ‘collectably funktastic’ J hehe.
Unfortunately, until South Africa fully opens its arms to the craze, we will have to wait for dreams like that to take shape. How long until vinyl toys in Cape Town takes off??
The Vinyl toy revolution is by no means dead in SA, rather it is waiting to explode. Heck we even have local South African artists like Kronk making custom designs for vinyl toy companies like Kidrobot…here is an example of his work.
Wow, we are lucky to have a designer like this flying our flag high, nice one Kronk.
So if you are in Cape Town and hunting for vinyl toys, best take a spin past the V&A and check out the amazing model’s available at Toitoy.
Also if you have a favourite vinyl toy spot other than Toitoy, why not let me know and I will do a write up about it…after all the community really needs to stand together in order to survive.
Peace out.
Duncs.
