Greetings one and all.
In my last posting you would have seen that we have already selected our winner for the Battle of the Best, which went to Sebasebi’s stunning Mr. Cosmos design.
While that massive compo has ended it is now time to look ahead and discover the talent that will become our new Battle of the Best winner. The talent for our latest competition is no less amazing, so scope out my Faces of Africa top designs.
My first choice has to be Jabanero’s new design Biko is beautiful. Many of you who were involved with the 35 nations of Football theme competition will be familiar with his submission entitled Gale Force Football. While he didn’t win that competition his design was still very popular and narrowly missed out on the win. This time around however Jabanero has almost definitely assured himself at least a spot in the top 5. He has two similar variations of his Biko is beautiful design. One in the shape of Africa and the other, which I have added to this blog, is the shape of a baobab tree. Both of them are simply stunning and deserve to win this compo.
Biko is such a well known leader in the struggle against apartheid, that I am certain that this design will rise to the top with little difficulty. Biko is beautiful is a superb design with great text detail and an iconic Biko face that just seems so stalwart and determined.
If this design doesn’t win I will be pretty surprised….well either one of Jabanero’s Biko inspired designs that is.
My next design comes from a very well known designer who has become a benchmark for design here at Springleap.com. WolFox who is best known for his stunning eSempowenis design, is back with another stunningly executed African design, 2010.
If you are familiar with science-fiction you will automatically see the resemblance of this design with 2001: A Space Odyssey, which is pretty much one of the best known sci-fi’s of all time.
Truly this simple one colour job with a super cool afro-funk spaceman is without doubt one of the best designs of the competition. There was no doubt in my mind that it’s had to be one of my Faces of Africa top designs.
The 2010 is also mega appropriate for our year as well as the football playing astronaut.
Very cool, very funny….very likely to be popular!
My final choice is always what I consider a ‘wild card’. It usually goes to a design that I enjoy, but I feel will have to work hard in order to pull off a win. Without doubt my Faces of Africa top designs are not complete without the super slick design job of Hail SIESA by Hyltona.
Hyltona is new to the Springleap.com crew, but I can already sense good things coming from this man in the future. Hail SIESA is an obvious poke at Hail Caesar, which in many ways is highly appropriate on many levels.
Caesar was a leader that was controversial and often hated by the very people he was supposedly protecting…our very own Julius Malema is in a similar boat. Caesar was in charge of an army, while Malema is in charge of the Youth League, which may as well be an army…especially in the way they conduct themselves.
This design is another simple one colour job, but the grey and black has been done in such a way that it really does become very striking. This is a funny design with a bit of edge and deeper thought…that is providing you have the capacity for deeper thought lol.
Great work Hyltona, we all look forward to more of your work in the future.
Well there we have it gang, my Faces of Africa top designs. There are plenty others that stand a chance, but these designs are the ones that speak to me the most.
What are ya waiting for boys and girls? Time to get VOTING!!!!!!
Duncs.
