Hi there all you designers.

Every year the best designers in the country, as well as the best upcoming designers, compete for the coveted first place prize in Carrol Boyes New Design Search competition. This time around Carrol Boyes has asked designers to focus their energy on unique Metal Vases

As always the Design Search Competition is open to anybody that feels they have a great idea. SO no matter if you are an industry guru, an industrial design student, or even an everyday Joe…all are welcome.
All that is required of you is to create a unique 3D prototype of your design, entry form, a copy of your ID and your own personal one page CV. Simple as!

This year the Carrol Boyes New Design Search focuses on Metal Vases that serve as a beautiful aesthetic as well as having functionality. In order to make your design commercially viable please stick to metals like aluminium, stainless steel or pewter…no adamantium please
Dont worry about the metal working too much, all prototypes are acceptable as long as they are structurally strong. So don’t feel bad if you use resins, ceramics, or even wood….it’s all good.

Ok so maybe you have a great idea and can sketch it up as a concept…but creating a 3D representation may be outside your area of expertise. SO WHAT! I say team up with somebody you know who can do the 3D and you focus on the creative idea….together you can both win a great deal of cash. The Carrol Boyes competition must not be looked upon as an elitist gathering of designers…every single person out there has great ideas, just not the ability to carry that idea through to completion…thats why working together at times is important.

I really like this year’s theme…in the past some of the themes have been a tad wishy washy. However this year the Metal Vase theme really appeals to me. After visiting the Carrol Boyes stand at Design Indaba this year and having one of the ladies there explained what was required, I got really excited.
What even more exciting are the prizes:
First place – R50 000
Second place – R25 000
Third place – R15 000

Now that’s a lot of Chappies boys and girls!
