8-Bit Bytes Back

Insert cartridge….power onpew pew dakka dakka!

Hi there all you designers out there! Guess what time….no it’s not time to join the military (that is for fools). It’s time to check our Springleap.com’s latest theme competition. Give it up for 8-Bit Bytes Back, a trip down memory lane to the video games of the 80’s.
This design competition is going to be very popular if my precognition has anything to say about it.

Ok so for those of you who don’t know what 8-Bit actually means, it refers to a specific old school generation of video game consoles that ran 8-bit cartridges (also known for 8-bit electronic music). The days of cartridge gaming is for the most part, a thing of the past. They cartridge style is no way as powerful as the modern gaming standard of DVD’s, which can hold much more space and even grander potential for graphics. However, there are still thousands of diehard fans that still enjoy blasting around on these old retro gaming consoles. 8-bit gaming may be dead, but every now and then it feels good to resurrect it from the grave and have a few laughs and screams.

Springleap.com recognises that there are still loads of us out there that still appreciate 8-bit games and indeed, make it part of our lives…after all it’s our gaming heritage. Our latest competition 8-Bit Bytes Back is an ode to a style that is looked upon with fond memories.
Can you conjure up a truly awesome 8-bit styled t-shirt design? I’m sure you all have plenty of great ideas for this one….it’s going to be a wicked fun competition.

Basically all we ask is for you to delve deep into your past and create a winning t-shirt design that embodies the retro age of gaming. That is 8-bit.
Pretty much all of us have been exposed to this world of old school graphics…well perhaps not the oldest Springleapers, or the really young ones. But the 8-bit graphic style has been used in many contemporary advertising and marketing schemes…heck I even saw it is a music video not so long ago.
Right! It is now time to power up and get cracking on some awesomely 80’s style gaming t-shirts.

It’s easy to come up with inspiration for this theme, just Google 8-bit games and you will find a serious list of titles that will take you back to your childhood!
Who can forget such timeless classics as: Mario, Ice Climber, Twin Bee, Contra, Frogger and Donkey Kong.
