Hustle Kings

Hustle Kings

8 Ballcorner pocket!

Yep this blog goes out to all you pool hall junkies out there. While many of us spend our weekends standing around some or other pub/club trying to sink the black, some of our more introverted human friends would rather stay at home on a Friday night and huddle around their PlayStations.
For those who would rather stay at home and play pool, here is an awesome new game called Hustle Kings, which is pretty much as real as it gets….well without actually holding a cue and leaving your room.

The new release Hustle Kings is an absolutely beautiful (yet simple) video game simulation of the real thing. While Hustle Kings may not be the most original game out, it still has potential for a high fun factor that will thrill those at home who like to play competitive games against their buddies…but what is the “lastability” of a game like this??
I remember back in the day, shooo I must have been in like 1994, we had a similar 3D style pool hall game….think it was simply called 3D Pool, can’t remember. But yeah, my buddies and I had loads of fun jamming that game…that was until we were old enough to sneak into pool halls and pubs lol.

Personally I have to say I was rather surprised to see another game like this come out…while I suppose it’s like the world of fashion: inevitably styles come back. I suppose with the Wii being so popular these days with interactive sports games it was only a manner of time before the bigger consoles decide to stick their nose into the genre.
If you would like a breakdown of exactly how your gamepad will work with this game please head across to IGN.com for the review.

Now even though the game looks really slick, I still have to say I’m not totally sold on this game. Maybe it’s because I’ve grown older or something, but I would much rather just play pool than stuff around on my console “simulating” the act. However if you are a serious hermit who is afraid of people and don’t want to be exposed to the horrors of the real world…perhaps this is the game for you!
Just how we used to play 3D Pool back when I was young, there is still no real connection to the real thing. How does a controller give you a fraction of the feeling a real pool cue does? While perhaps the Wii has come up with some silly little dinky pool cue for home use, this does not extend to the PlayStation version…good luck.

Perhaps somebody can explain to me what still draws people back to this novelty. I can understand if you are young or a hermit person, but otherwise I can’t see any self respecting adult actually paying money for this. SO maybe Hustle Kings is best left for the kids, or at best competitive adults. Now I may be giving this game a bit of a rip, but that is not stopping punters from buying. Supposedly in the PSN (PlayStation Network) February Sales Hustle Kings came second in the overall takings, missing out narrowly to Marvel Vs. Capcom 2….which is a game that I really want to get my hands on.

I’d love to hear your thoughts!

D.
