Hi there one and all.
Living with an interior designer has really opened my eyes to the world of home design. There is definitely an art in organizing a space and coming up with a truly “beautiful” interior scheme.
When I was younger all I knew is that I wanted Japanese this and Japanese that…because I’m pretty obsessed with that style. However, I have leant to open my eyes and accept design that may at first look outlandish and totally not “for me”. Whilst walking around Design Indaba 2010, I stumbled across many items that I would like to incorporate into my ultimate personal home design. One such item that I thought was really funky was the Twi-light table lamp by Snapp.
The Twi-light table lamp looks like something the Mad Hatter would have in his trendy Tokyo apartment! The table lamp itself relies on ambient light. The designers had this to say about the Twi-light table lamp:
“The Twi-light table lamp is inspired by the unusual and romantic ambient light reflected by the Earth’s atmosphere when illuminated by the sun hidden below the horizon.”
Ok, so perhaps that sounded a tad artsy for the more chilled interior appreciator, however when you actually take a look at this lamp you will understand exactly why they describe the lamp in this fashion.
Basically this funky mushroom looking lamp has 2 modes: open and closed.
When you look at it in its normal “closed” state it looks like a sleek, almost flat, topped mushroom. When you give the top a gentle push the inside pops up and takes on its “opened” state, which looks supremely awesome. I’m actually not sure what stage I actually prefer. They both look unique and serve different purposes. When the top opens up it displays what they call a “chromatic surface illuminated by a mysteriously obscured light source”. Give the opened Twi-light table lamp another gentle push on the top and it slips back inside itself and gives of an almost warm and happy “indirect light”.
The Twi-light table lamp was one of a few designs that Snapp had n display at the Design Indaba 2010. In fact, the Design Indaba served as the launch for their products in their ‘Inception Collection’.
I will peruse around and see if I can find more info on the other Snapp products. Unfortunately it seems that the Snapp website is still not operational. Hopefully they will be up and running very soon.
Perhaps the guys and girls at Snapp can send me a link to their catalogue and product info…that would indeed be fabulous.
So, if you are looking for a table lamp with a difference and will really give your space a unique, almost futuristic look, the Twi-ligh lamp is the answer. This awesome design piece reminds me of a contemporary lava lamp…in feeling, not aesthetic. It may not look like a lava lamp or have the bubbling balls of colour, but it does give you the same feeling inside which calms and makes you think up groovy ideas.
Nice one Snapp, or should I say nice one Jonathan Fundudis and David Holgreaves…who are the designers of the very cool Twi-light table lamp.
