Hi there one and all.
Weeeeee have a winner folks!
It looks like my winning design detector has been working quite well lately. Even though this design came through late to the competition voting page it still managed to wrestle away the win from a whole host of killer cool designs. In actual fact I did a blog on Tu’s brilliant winning Freedom Walker design maybe 2 days before the winner was announced, saying that I felt it deserved a mention and should have been in my Top Design picks for the Faces of Africa theme compo.
So let’s hear it for the amazing Tu and his stunning winning design Freedom Walker….hippidy hip hooray!!!!
One thing for sure this design has it all going on! Not only is the design unique and interesting, but it has also been put together beautifully and with a very close adhering to the proposed theme.
Perhaps what I like most about Tu’s Freedom Walker is the fact that it is a combination of old school meets youth. Mandela is an absolutely iconic figure in the Apartheid struggle (probably the most iconic actually). His Long Walk to Freedom book is world renowned and by combining the familiar branding of Johnnie Walker, we end up with a design that crosses boundaries of ages and updates this iconic figure to a contemporary audience. I absolutely love the way Tu has drawn the sneakers and incorporated an African theme.
No matter how you cut it, this is one seriously amazing design, which is most certainly deserving of the Faces of Africa top spot.
Tu has been sending in so many super designs and narrowly missing out on a win for quite some time now…so yeah, I’m very stoked to see this artist come out on top.
Great work Tu, I can’t wait to see your next mega Springleap entry.
Peace out.
D.
