Detroit Metal City

DMC

Go to DMC! Go to DMC!

Boys and girls get ready for one of the strangest anime I have ever seen in my life…which is truly saying something.
This is undoubtedly one of my absolute favourite musical anime of all time. When I first stuck it on I wasn’t honestly expecting much, maybe just something to pass the time. But the more I watched, the more I came to love the characters and their absolutely insane lives.
You have to see it to believe it, Detroit Metal City!

Detroit Rock City (Aka: DMC) is originally a manga that features soft hearted Negishi who is really into cute Swedish-pop music. He moves from the quiet countryside to study music in Tokyo. He is very talented on guitar and finally graduates, however his dreams is shattered when he ends up playing for a Japanese death metal band. You may be wondering how such a sweet guy like Negishi could hack it as a death metal front man. Well the truth is, when Negishi puts on his wig, makeup and body armour he becomes a totally different person. When Negishi hits the stage and the fans are screaming he transforms into Johannes Krauser II, the most fearsome man in Japanese metal.

Basically DMC chronicles the insane double like of Negishi, as he tries to get his own “cutesy music” career started and leave the world of death metal behind forever. However, escaping the rock ‘n roll lifestyle isn’t as easy as he would like, no matter what happens, or how he tries to fight it, the world of death metal just sinks its talons deeper and deeper into him with each passing episode.
If it’s not the psychotic fans, or demented band members, it’s his evil manager that makes his simple life an absolute impossibility.

MAD MONSTER!

Just a warning to the younger guys and girls out there (or perhaps anybody overly sensitive), this anime/manga is full of explicit language and heavy themes. The entire series is a parody on the world of heavy metal rockers. So, don’t expect it to ever pull its punches. Some of the things that I have seen in DMC are downright SHOCKING!
Take Detroit Metal City with a “bucket of salt”!

GROTESQUE!

Detroit Metal City was originally a manga that started back in 2006 and so far has raised so much attention that it has already spawned an anime series and live action movie. Personally I discovered the anime before the manga, but perhaps that isn’t such bad news, because the anime really shows off his personality and you get a better feel for the music. The anime is actually shorter than the manga itself: the anime has like 12 episodes, while the manga has something like 83 chapters still on-going. I was really bummed when I came to the end of the anime, however you can read the manga screeners online at Onemanga.com
THANKS GUYS

Just in case you didn’t realise, the name Detroit Metal City is an ode to the very well know band Kiss, who sang the classic tune Detroit Rock City (there is also a movie with this name). The band members even dress up like Kiss with their full makeup and full plate looking armour. Indeed, this is one big shout out to all the metal fans out there!

SATSUGAI!
