Ye Gods, it seems like there is a multitude of mythological movies sprouting up these days.
The wonder of age old Greek mythology has long been a firm favourite of readers across the world. Indeed such epics as the Illiad and Aeneid are corner stone’s of the literary tradition itself.
It was only a matter of time before these amazing stories got picked up by Hollywood and transformed into big screen powerhouses.
Ok, so it’s not like it’s a new idea to make mythological movies. Think about the good ol’ Clash of the Titans back in 1981. Theres nothing cooler than watching the gods chosen one Perseus as he kicks the crap out of Medusa and does battle against the super powerful Kraken monster. This brings me to the first of the mythological movies I would like to mention…thats right, it’s the Clash of the Titans remake. This star studded mythological blockbuster is being directed by Louis Leterrier and stars such actor’s as Sam Worthington, Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes. While this latest version of Clash of the Titans is different from the original movie, it still has a pretty stock standard quest theme. Perseus leads a band of heroes off on a quest to kill Hades Kraken beast and restore the balance of the gods which will in turn stop Hades from overthrowing Zeus and causing an omnipotent amount of trouble.
I’m really looking forward to this one because I am a huge fan of Greek mythology, which I studied a few mod’s of a few years ago. It’s going to be a visual feast of demi-god hack hack slash slash…AWESOME!
I really do dig this Sam Worthington fellow, he’s a kickbum actor and I’m sure he will pull of the role of Perseus perfectly.
