Greetings movie lovers.

It’s raining and cold in the Mother City meaning that it’s a good idea to snuggle up and watch a good movie, or if you have the money, cruise to your local cinema and catch one of the latest flicks.
With Iron Man 2 still kicking some serious bum at the box office it is still up there as one of the top choices to go see. Although I’m sure many of you would rather watch something other than a metal man flying around knocking the hell out of bad guys (who are you people hehehe). So here are the latest movies that will hit Nu Metro this week.

First up we have the impressively animated movie called 9. This one looks to be a great bit of fun for the whole family…well Tim Burton style family fun. Indeed it does have a rather darker edge to it, but I’m sure the older kids and adults will really dig this one. I have seen a few clips online and it looks to be a really beautiful “oogle-fest”. As for the story itself it sees a small constructed humanoid called 9, who wakes up in a wasteland with nobody around. He begins his journey to find his place in a world that seems to have fallen apart….hectic!

One of the latest movies on my list that I have been dying to watch is the local South African comedy entitled I now pronounce you black & white. This rather controversial comedy is about a young Jewish boy who meets a young black lady and they fall in love and become engaged. The big problem is that their families are stuck in the past and are extremely racist. Can you imagine bringing home a fiancé that is not the same culture as you are to a family full of racists….eish, let the sparks fly!
This is going to be one of the local movies of the year and may even beat out the new upcoming Leon Schuster movie called Survival guide to South Africa.

The last of my choices on my latest movies list for the week has to be the best of the lot, the new Robin Hood movie. Russell Crowe plays the leading role of Robin, while his leading lady Marion is played by mega actress Cate Blanchett. This is going to be an epic movie I hope. Although it seems once again they have chosen another “non-English” actor to play Robin Hood at least they did an Aussie this time and not an American. The word on the street is that this big budget arrow-fest feels much like Crowes previous Epic movie Gladiator…which was awesome. So let hold thumbs that this movie can live up to the previous incarnations and the legend of Robin Hood in general.

Oh and before I go, please heed my warning and evade the upcoming Sex and the City 2 which oozes its slime onto our cinema screens from the 27th of May. Seriously people need to let some things die…not resurrect them and push their luck. Nobody likes zombies in makeup!

D.
