Wheel of Excellence

Wheel of Excellence

Hi there all you fun loving Capetonians out there!

If you live in close proximity to the V&A Waterfront chances are you would have seen some rather strange colossal poles and bars going up by the Gateway canal (which is accessed from the Coen Steytler entrance). Those my super friends are the structure for a massive Ferris Wheel called the Wheel of Excellence….and yeah after seeing a completed picture of the wheel I have to agree it’s a rather fitting name indeed.

Although I have been on every sort of amusement park ride you can imagine, I have as yet still not been on one of the most basic, but best of them all…the Ferris Wheel!
Maybe I just didn’t have the right girl in my life at the right time to enjoy the awesomness of the Big wheel to its fullest….and no that doesn’t mean getting up to “dodgy” things in the compartments :P
Rather, sharing the view with somebody special is much better than going with a whole bunch of unruly mates who are trying to look over the edge at the girls above and below.

The Wheel of Excellence is going to be a great site for all the tourists and locals to come and enjoy over the football season.
Dude the Wheel of Excellence stands over a whopping 50m high and will give the public an unprecedented view of the Waterfront, Table Mountain and the distant mountain ranges. Man oh man I reckon this will be damn beautiful…so don’t forget to pack your binoculars and a good camera to take some memorable shots.

Now don’t be a nervous Nelly. These things are built to the highest German and European standards. So don’t think that you are going to suddenly start rolling into the bay. It’s not gonna happen folks.
The wheel itself has 36 compartments that are all laid out to be super comfortable. So, don’t worry about getting a sore bum or anything like that either. We are talking air conditioning and glass floors, for a more panoramic experience.
This will be a 5-star experience for a “relatively cheap” price, which I hear will be around R70 upwards. Why it is not a fixed price I don’t know. Maybe some of the cabins aren’t as luxurious as the others….a 3rd class, business class scenario hahaha!

Well, any way you look at this it will be great fun for the whole family. So get on down there and experience something special!!

D.
