iPad rip-off

iPad rip-off

Greetings one and all.

As I’m sure many of you will know, the latest gadget to hit the market in recent months is the highly anticipated tablet computer from Apple, the iPad.
Yes indeed, we have been waiting for quite some time for a tablet computer the likes of this high tech innovation. While many people have given the new device the thumbs down, it seems that its popularity has still seen it go on to sell 2 million units. Which as I’m sure you will agree is not too shabby at all, considering it only became available in April of this year.
However competition for the tablet computer sales has taken a new turn as the very first iPad rip-off, hits the shelves. It’s called the iPed….and no, I’m not even joking. Sheesh!

First off I’m not going to sit here and give you the specifics of the device, there is a multitude of websites dedicated to this which you can scour. Here is the Wiki link if you are in the dark about the iPad.

Ok I’m going to give you three guesses which country the very first iPad rip-off comes from…LOL, honestly you shouldn’t need 3 guesses at all, you should instantly know.
Yes indeed, it’s China! Surprised…you shouldn’t be. The knock-off has hit the shelves in Shenzhen and has created a truck load of attention from the Asian media. The iPed is here!
The reaction to the iPed has been a mixed bag of scorn, surprise and stomach cramping amusement!
Personally as soon as I saw the article about the iPed I couldn’t help but laugh my bum off.
Seriously the Chinese rip-off doesn’t pull any punches at all….I mean naming it something so close to the original is like a double slap to the face for Apple. Who says the Cold War is over…not by a long shot hahaha!

Potential winning designs

Potential winning designs

Hello there my friends.

It seems with every competition we have clear favourites and the designs which we have a strong feeling that won’t make it. The grey area between these two groups is indeed an unknown factor in trying to guess who exactly will scoop the win.
Potential winning designs are pretty much what constitutes the majority of this grey area, where it is almost impossible to ascertain if they have a chance or not.

Springleap.com attracts designers from all walks of life and design skill levels. The designers that send in what I consider “potential winning designs” are the proverbial ‘Dark Horses’ of the game. They are usually talented but lack a certain something that is holding their designs back from being up there with the big guns of the compo.
Usually these designs fall apart with inadequate focus on design elements. Whether the design has a poor choice of colours, or perhaps even placement, it’s with the design elements where a design stumbles and inevitably, falls.

I have chosen two designs from our latest Open Theme competition, which I feel are both potential winning designs that could very well have made it all the way, that is, if their designs had been given greater thought and sharper execution.
