Greetings one and all.
Football mania is sweeping the nation as the final countdown looms for the BIG kickoff.
The air is electric with anticipation and the multitudes of various tourists from all across the globe can be felt everywhere.
It’s fantastic to see so many people out wearing their football jerseys, even though it’s not “Football Friday”. I don’t have a football jersey myself, but I feel compelled to wear lots of yellow and green. GO Bafana!!!!
I’m ashamed to admit that up until recently I was one of those people who resisted the pull of the football mania. It is the commercial suck that I sought to thwart. It makes my hair stand on end when company after company use the World Cup as an advertising tool. Well, I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised. These companies will do it anyway, even if they come across as completely fake. Dude I’ve even seen some can company advertising their stuff with a dancing crowd all holding their cans with lil SA flags on them. Can you say CHEAP!
Luckily for me over sensitive advertising filter has backed down a little and has allowed me to open up my heart to the whole World Cup affair! The football mania has got me excited for the games themselves. All the opening ceremony and concert stuff I’m not especially interested in. However I just can’t wait for the first whistle and the football assault. Boys and girls, these are the best football players on Earth….to have them all on SA soil, all at the same time is something truly special.
So, let the football mania hit you like a sledgehammer. Why not! Enjoy the games and experience the many cultures that have already begun to descend on sunny South Africa. Make new friends, or share with your old ones!
This week I will be doing my best to wear a little yellow and blow my imaginary vuvuzela.
Once again, go team go!
D.
