Giant Vuvuzela myth

PAAAAAAAAAAAAAARP Game ON!

With the imminent first kickoff for the World Cup 2010 commencing on Friday, the football fever that I spoke of yesterday has begun to really reach new heights here in Cape Town.
There is a sea of green and yellow South African football jerseys flowing through the streets, as well as a great many ripples of foreign team supporters.
The final touches are being tweaked and double checked. The flags are flying and the football posters are all over the place. It’s amazing what can be achieved in less than a month.
So far I have, as yet, not seen many pictures of Durban’s advertising/marketing efforts. I have seen Jozies and Cape Town for myself however. As far as I’m concerned Cape Town is leading the pack and is the most capable to receive our overseas visitors. Although I have no doubt that Joburg will step it up before game time!

One of the more questionable rumours going around at the moment is the Giant Vuvuzela myth.

I’m sure that you have all received the email with the stunning pictures of Cape Town’s amazing giant vuvuzela, which is positioned on the, now infamous, unfinished bridge. The vuvuzela itself is absolutely brilliant and exudes a serious soccer fever spirit. Its touches like this that really make me feel that the city of Cape Town has gone above and beyond what the other cities are offering.
This creative spirit is indeed very typical of Cape Town’s design heritage!

The giant vuvuzela myth that I am talking about is the one where the vuvuzela is supposed to make a noise after every goal.
Well, this particular story is half true!
The vuvuzela will be making a noise. However it will be at the start of every game, not after every single goal!

When I heard this giant vuvuzela myth I was a little concerned. Imagine this giant freaking vuvuzela goes off sporadically whenever there is a goal. I know us Captonians have spirit, but sheesh, this would cause major mayhem.

This info is actually from a girl named Nicole who was part of the Jupiter Drawing Room design team that put the project together. So yeah, it’s from the source I promise LOL.

Great work Nicole. This will be one of the things that people will remember about the World Cup for generations to come!

D.
