I want to encourage people to just be who they are, don’t ever feel like you have to somehow fit in just to be someone. I think this is more and more of a concerning issue everyday…whether you are in school, the workplace, the social scene…it takes place.
People go to extreme measures to try and fit in, change their lifestyles completely and for what…so you can feel like you are someone…Let me tell you…you are someone…each person is made unique and different…just be who you were intended to be…if you accept who you are then you will be a much happier person…because you will be content with yourself and life in general…if certain people can’t accept that…then you know what you don’t need people like that in your life…rather not be the person who tries so hard to please those people who actually don’t really deep down care a damn about you.
Go out and meet people…you will find that you will start encountering people who like you for you…and then that’s when meaningful long lasting friendships are formed.
What is emo music…well let’s see first off emo stands for emotional and it is a genre of punk. It looks like the emo scene has really taken off in South Africa within the last 3 years…too bad that the emo scene has been going for the last 8-10 years….yes people emo music has been around for ages…where have you all been…there have been numerous bands that have come and gone from the scene…some of the bands from the early days are Senses fail, The Early November, The Starting Line, Hot Rod Circuit, Brand New, Dashboard Confessional, Finch, The Get up Kids, …etc…etc…just to name a few…
When emo music first came into being in the States, it was not big most of the bands mentioned above were all underground bands trying to make a name for themselves…I honestly think that the earlier bands had a much better sound than the stuff being put out nowadays…Do yourself a favor and try and get yourselves some of the old albums from any of the bands mentioned above…There are still some good emo bands out at the moment like: Number one Gun, Terminal, Ivoryline, Yellowcard, Number one Fan, Mayday Parade, Cartel…Ever since I first started listening to emo music I fell in love, everything from the singer’s voice to the technical guitar riffs not to mention the overboard display of drumming…I have been playing emo music in my band “Victory at Last” for the last 5 years…ever since getting my taste I wanted to make emo music…what is a nice blend is adding the wholescreamo aspect into the sound…playing emo music while adding the screaming element here and there to spice things up…
My adventure starts with me being deprived of having sleep due to my own foolishness, then having to drive all the way from Jo’burg to Durban and then trying to sleep when getting home but it did not work at all…during the process of bribing myself to sleep the ol’ cell phone started to tinkle…giving it all my strength I answered only to be surprised by the voice of a fren who I haven’t heard from or seen in ages…the just of the whole conversation was a plot to convince me to go to movies…well not really but that’s how it plays out in my head anyways…this is when she starts telling me about thefilm…
I had mixed reservations about this film when I first got the general synopsis from a fren who eventually twisted my arm to go and watch it…I thought what the hang I got nothing better to do plus she offered to pay for me so score…and this is when the “Lars and The Real Girl” adventure started…The film basically evolves around this guy called Lars, who lives in the garage of his parents home…he also seems to have a phobia towards woman around his own age…He eventually decides to buy a blow up doll off the internet, who then in turn becomes his girlfriend Bianca. The whole town eventually decides to play along with the whole idea in order for Lars to work out his own inner emotions and issues. The film has loads of little moments and a couple of laughs here and there…I would definitely recommend “Lars and the Real Girl” for people who have an open mind. It’s refreshing to watch a film like this because it leaves you with a sense of “Maybe my life is not that bad”.
