Cannes Film Festival awards

Uncle Boonmee

Hi there movie fans.

As many of you will know the very prestigious Cannes Film Festival awards have drawn to a close and the final list of winner has been announced. Every festival the illustrious Palme d’Or, AKA the Golden Palm, goes to the best film of the festival. This year a movie with a rather bizarre name scooped the top honours. Let’s check out Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s rather peculiar tale called Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives.

Yes indeed this movie title is quite a strange one, however the reviews of this movie are anything but strange…in fact they are downright amazing. Apichatpong Weerasethakul is the Thai director of this rather uniquely odd movie which is about a man who is dying from kidney failure, but who is visited by the ghost of his dead wife who comes back to look after him in his final days. His disappeared son also comes back to him…however, in the form of a furry creature.

Alice in Wonderland 3D

Alice in Wonderland 3D

Whats a girl to do?

There has been such an immense amount of hype surrounding the new Alice in Wonderland movie, that I am in fact, more petrified of watching it than ever before. Many of you will already know that this is not a remake of the original story, rather what transpires afterwards.
Can Alice in Wonderland attain the respect it has been said to deserve?
Will Alice in Wonderland 3D flop?

Alice does not care about all the pomp and wishes for a more rewarding life. Of course we already know Alice’s inquisitive nature which inevitably leads her to chase after the white rabbit and tumble down that mysterious hole into Wonderland…or at least Underland…which is what they call it in the movie.

Terminator Salvation

terminator

“I’ll be back”…. “asta la vista baby”.

If you know these two very famous movie quotes then you must be familiar with The Terminator saga of years gone by.
You have to love seeing a fully muscled Arnold Schwarzenegger as a killer robot from the future, hunting down humans and generally causing massive destruction wherever he goes.
Well hold onto your popcorn because Terminator is back and it’s called Salvation.

Back in the day Terminator came out and freaked the hell out of youngsters everywhere, I was only 3 years old when it came out in 1984, so I actually missed it when it came out, only when Terminator 2 was set for release in 1991 did I even hear about Arnolds cyber-tastic exploits.
Terminator 2 was a milestone in CG graphics when it came out…”liquid metal” was a sight so extraordinary that it changed the movie industry forever…so far as special effects go.
These days computer enhanced graphics are normal and the younger generation don’t remember a time without them…which let’s face it, is kinda sad. But that’ a whole other blog for another day :P
