bad banking

FNB ATM

Hi there one and all.

I never thought I’d write a blog on this subject, but hey, here is a blog about bad banking.

Ok, so we have all had sucky experiences with the band. They overcharge us with ridiculous service fees and lead us to believe that they are really our friends….lol. No, no, friends don’t usually hold onto your money and deceive you…just do what you are supposed to, don’t mess us around and help OUR money grow…simple as that.
Anyway that aside, when I talk about bad banking, I’m actually talking more about the fact that I had a bad experience with one of the FNB ATM’s the other day.

If you are in the Sea Point are and use the ATM at the Checkers you will know exactly what I’m talking about. Recently they must have changed the software because they have a new “idle” screen that pops up whilst waiting for a human to put in their card. I’m not sure why, because FNB’s colour scheme is blue and orange, but for whatever reason it displays a full red screen…bad banking!

Twi-light table lamp

Snapp

Hi there one and all.

Living with an interior designer has really opened my eyes to the world of home design. There is definitely an art in organizing a space and coming up with a truly “beautiful” interior scheme.
When I was younger all I knew is that I wanted Japanese this and Japanese that…because I’m pretty obsessed with that style. However, I have leant to open my eyes and accept design that may at first look outlandish and totally not “for me”. Whilst walking around Design Indaba 2010, I stumbled across many items that I would like to incorporate into my ultimate personal home design. One such item that I thought was really funky was the Twi-light table lamp by Snapp.

The Twi-light table lamp looks like something the Mad Hatter would have in his trendy Tokyo apartment! The table lamp itself relies on ambient light. The designers had this to say about the Twi-light table lamp:
“The Twi-light table lamp is inspired by the unusual and romantic ambient light reflected by the Earth’s atmosphere when illuminated by the sun hidden below the horizon.”
Ok, so perhaps that sounded a tad artsy for the more chilled interior appreciator, however when you actually take a look at this lamp you will understand exactly why they describe the lamp in this fashion.

8-Bit Bytes Back

8-Bit Bytes Back

Insert cartridge….power onpew pew dakka dakka!

Hi there all you designers out there! Guess what time….no it’s not time to join the military (that is for fools). It’s time to check our Springleap.com’s latest theme competition. Give it up for 8-Bit Bytes Back, a trip down memory lane to the video games of the 80’s.
This design competition is going to be very popular if my precognition has anything to say about it.

Ok so for those of you who don’t know what 8-Bit actually means, it refers to a specific old school generation of video game consoles that ran 8-bit cartridges (also known for 8-bit electronic music). The days of cartridge gaming is for the most part, a thing of the past. They cartridge style is no way as powerful as the modern gaming standard of DVD’s, which can hold much more space and even grander potential for graphics. However, there are still thousands of diehard fans that still enjoy blasting around on these old retro gaming consoles. 8-bit gaming may be dead, but every now and then it feels good to resurrect it from the grave and have a few laughs and screams.

Springleap.com recognises that there are still loads of us out there that still appreciate 8-bit games and indeed, make it part of our lives…after all it’s our gaming heritage. Our latest competition 8-Bit Bytes Back is an ode to a style that is looked upon with fond memories.
Can you conjure up a truly awesome 8-bit styled t-shirt design? I’m sure you all have plenty of great ideas for this one….it’s going to be a wicked fun competition.
