Skate art has come a long way since the sport, culture and industry started way back in mid 1940’s. Today most art is situated on the deck or wooden platform that the rider stands on but can also be found on the wheels and trucks of the board. The later being the most unusual as it’s rather a small surface area and has weird and crazy angles. Most truck art is in the form of a pattern or texture, a popular one being “the wooden truck” look.
Sometimes it just feels so damn good to be South African. Right now I am feeling flipping proud and it is down to two local boys, Dom and Dave of Goldfish.
The fishies have just signed up to the second biggest house label in the world, Pacha Music. Go boys! Every year Pacha gets one of their artists to do an album with the Pacha name in it. This year the guys from Goldfish were given the huge honour of doing it.
I was given a few sample tracks to listen through last month and I was impressed. I got given their full album and I was blown away. Perceptions of Pacha is the follow on from Caught in the loop and I can’t do this album any justice. It speaks for itself, just give it a listen and you will be left with a big smile and a happy heart. Perceptions of Pacha is much more jazzy than caught in the loop…its music than just makes you want to get up and party. These two boys have got it so right. The album launch at Kirstenbosch gardens in Cape Town was amazing. A crowd of over 8000 people gathered to see these cats whip through their album launch. Something that has never happened here before. Dom and Dave have such a huge following, a steady troop of goldfish soldiers follow them all across South Africa. But South Africa isn’t the only country that Goldfish have played. They are currently jetting around the world playing at all the hottest spots.
For those of you out there who have not heard the sound of Goldfish, get off your butt and go check them out.
Yo Yo Yo!!! Its party time peeps, lets drop it like it’s hot.
